The best hiking shoes I have ever had
This is my fourth pair of Grisport shoes and second pair of Dartmoor hiking shoes. My first pair have finally worn out after over two years of daily use walking and hiking. The first time I tried them on they felt just absolutely right, very comfortable and needed no breaking in. Every pair of Grisport shoes including a pair of hiking boots have fitted correctly first time and a pleasure to wear. The leather is top quality and even after taking a wet and muddy bashing thay wash and polish up like new. I have found them to be waterproof within reason. Walking in long wet grass will eventually let water in because no breathable membrane will withstand water being forced through which happens when your feet are moving through long grass. However, I have not had any water ingress problems with walking in the rain because the rain can run off the shoe. I do regularly treat them with leather waterproofer.I have had many hiking and walking shoes over the years and Grisport is the only brand that I have been so satisfied with that I come back for more. They are just excellent

Faultless
I have used Meindl for years but the Northern Ireland stockists have now gone. Taking the advice of many Grisport users via Amazon reviews I have given them a try. I take a size nine and they fit like a glove no sign of rub or gap, Vibram sole is perfect as always, laces are a fine and tough weave, uppers are high quality single-piece leather and can therefore be easily maintained with dubbin/wax. I've done nearly all terrains with these on me feet (no deserts or icy tundra on the Emerald Isle). For me they are faultless.

Beware Sizing
The Amazon size drop-down menu is in UK sizes. The shoes are manufactured to a continental size. You only get to see the size translation when adding to your basket, and Amazon seem to have got it wrong. For example, I ordered a "12" from the drop-down as it showed "UK 12/EU 46" when added to basket. 46, on all charts I have seen, translates to UK 11 (or a US 12). Size 46 duly arrived and were a good fit for my normally size 11 (UK) feet, despite me having bought a UK 12 according to Amazon. Can't comment on shoe quality just yet, but first look seems fine. Just a heads up on potential sizing issues.

It's a good shoe - buy my mother
It's a good shoe - buy my mother, who callously spent extra money on Clarke's shoes whilst I was growing up, has left me with feet that are the proper shape rather then having all of my toes squished up like a lot of people do. This means that some shoes, such as these, don't have quite enough room around my toes. A more square front profile would have solved this, these are too round for my feet. I can feel the edge of the shoe on my big toes particularly when going down hill. It's not uncomfortable, I am just aware of it.My discontinued HiTek shoes did not have this problem. I wish I could have bought another pair of those. But these are fine for now.

Great Walking Fell Shoes
The fit is as expected, very comfortable and nice looking. Now for the untested part..have had these a few weeks and so far no problem..and water proof, but you need occasionally to treat these to make sure they stay water proof, as with any other fell / walking shoe / boot. The cost of these was about the same as I have paid for other well known branded walking shoes, that will get a fair bit of use. I do about 25/30 miles a week with my walking group..through all sorts of terrain...so very important that they stay water proof and comfortable...and don't fall apart after a few months as some have done. I cant understand what has happened lately to so called similar walking shoes with really well known brands that often cost a lot more...so hoping very much that these last (at least) a few years...so will add further comments in the future about this purchase. One very positive comment I would like to make, is that when ever I have any problems with my purchases from Amazon..Iv`e contacted Amazon or the manufactures direct, who have either replaced the defective shoe/boot at no cost, or given me a full refund. So study the comments / feedback here on Amazon..which I have always found most helpful in making decisions about durability and suitability for the intended use. So far then...I like this Grisport Dartmoor Hiking Shoes...and hope very much that they turn out to be "Fit for Purpose"

Good but remedial action needed...
I've been wearing these for over a year now. They are worn daily but mainly for street walking. The sole is beginning to look a bit worn but still grippy, I reckon by next December I will be needing another pair. Absolutely no water penetration, feet always dry. They look stylish, neat and tidy and I keep them that way with monthly application of dubbing. After a few months I had a problem with the fit because when I was walking down hill my feet seemed to slip inside the boot and the outer leather seemed to distort making my walking experience a bit uncomfortable no matter how tight I pulled the laces. I really thought I might have to send them back at one point. Out of desperation I decided to try to find some insoles which I did at my local shoe repair shop for £4. That did the trick and walking in them became a pleasure again. So if anyone out there is having similar problems try a pair of sport insoles because I reckon the ones they come with are maybe a bit cheap, which is strange because the manufacturer should know what is suitable.
