OOLY products have been safety tested for use as art materials only and do not include food grade colors. We recommend using them for their intended purpose only. We use independent and accredited laboratories to test products for CPSIA, ASTM D-4236 and ASTM F963 when applicable. Through this testing within the guidelines of these regulatory agencies we are able to ensure that OOLY products meet the needs for safety compliance.

Is the consistency like chalk? Or more like an oil pastel?

They are definitely more oil pastel-like but still great.

Can they be erased with a regular eraser off a chalkboard? Or do they have to be wiped with something special?

I haven't tried with a regular eraser, mostly because I don't have one. I've just used a damp paper towel and it's worked just fine for me. Sometimes with a bit of dawn soap if there's still a residue, and then wipe down again with a clean towel/rag, and then dry. Worth the extra steps for me to not have chalk dust everywhere!

How do you get it off of your chalkboard?

We use a damp sponge to get it off of chalkboards and whiteboards.
