Worked ONCE/ Replaced
I was super hype for this item. I planned on using it to help guide me to a consistent, faster pace running. I received it 30 April. Opened it and headed out. I read the instructions and was pretty confident I could get it going. Tried to turn it on. No luck. Tried repeatedly and finally it just blinked on. Thought that was werid but hey it was working. Got the pace I wanted and was very happy. Finished the run. Turned it off and it never turned on again. Worked ONCE. I asked for a replacement and will update when it comes. Fingers crossed because when it did work it helped me alot.Reported the issue to Amazon. They had a new one out the next day...it works amazing. It helps me stay on stride. Love it.

Long time user, I'm happy with it. Had a good experience with Finis' customer service too.
Mine finally semi-died after years of use. I bought mine near the end of 2017. During that first 6 months of use I was swimming 4.5 miles every single day, no joke. So when I say I have no idea how many miles I have on this thing I really mean it.I'm totally happy with the unit. I used it exclusively for "Mode 3" which is the stroke-tempo-timer thing. Mostly to challenge myself and raise the workout intensity. Never had any issues with the seal around the battery door. Never experienced any leaks, chips, cracks or anything like. It gets SUPER long battery life which is rad. I think I only changed the battery once in that 4 year period. I am very gentle with this sort of gear. when its not in use its in a thick heavy duty mesh bag that. There are micro-scratches on it from the years of use. About the same level of damage you'd see on a heavily use pair of hand paddles.I'm not sure what caused my issue exactly. My mode 3 did eventually stop working. I went to use it one day and it was just not having it. It turned on like normal, I switched the mode over to mode-3 like normal, then less than a second later it flat-lined. The way a patient does on ER tv shows.. One single non-stop beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep lol. At this point the device became unresponsive for the most part. The mode button did nothing, and the up and down buttons - - when pressed individually - - did nothing. However, I could still turn the device off by holding how the two up/down buttons together like you would normally turn it off. I turned the device back on and checked that mode-1 and mode-2 were working as designed and they were, only mode-3 has this odd issue. The unit was completely dry. No condensation or anything was visible through the body of the unit. Nothing was loose or shaking around. It's never experienced any hard shocks/drops. Never stepped on it or anything like that.I got home tried again, same result. Replaced the battery with a new one, same result. I then contacted Finis support directly through their website. That was an easy process. They got back to me early the next day - that was great. There were no language barriers. They were polite and professional. They gave me a few troubleshooting steps, all of which I had already tried. I sent them a video of the device and me cycling through its modes and describing the issue. Obviously I was WAY past my warranty period so all I was hoping for was information on maybe how to reset the device or something. They were kind enough to offer me a new unit for $25.00! I took them up on the offer and an waiting for the new unit to arrive.I'm very happy with their customer service. I'm very happy with the device itself and its use case. But...I am a cheap ass. And I am an IT guy. This is one of the simplest devices you could build. As much as I love this thing, Finis, really guys, at $50-$60 this is about 300% more than it should be. If a competitor built the mode-3 functionality by itself into a water tight device and charged $15 for it, you guys would lose the market for this entirely. Every really serious swimmer and coach I know uses these and recommends them. And everyone of them only cares about mode-3. Had Finis not offered me the $25 replacement unit - - for which I am extremely grateful - - I would have just built my own version for $15.

makes a difference
this little tool helps me to focus my swim stroke (both form and rate). I have found my comfortable stroke rate and do drills at a faster rate, keeping is smooth and steady. I am using drills from the Swim Smooth book that feature the TTP. I expect to speed my stroke rate to a more efficient speed with this tool. It is surprising that such a simple thing as setting a tempo can help me focus on form and improve my stroke. It works, I'll take it.The beep is not-at- all rasping or too loud. It is just a steady, rather quiet beep. Swimmers who are sharing a lane with me cannot hear it.This is how I use it now, though I expect it's use to change over time. I set the beeps per second that I want then slip it under my cap at the back of my head, between my goggle straps (buttons facing out). When the time comes to turn it on or change the bps, I can find the right buttons without taking it out. I also use it to count the number of seconds I hold my stretches.

Worked for only a year.
Purchased this item on Sep 27, 2023, started using it during 2024, it worked for a year but now it is not working. First thought the battery was bad, purchased new Panasonic batteries but still not working! I purchased it for almost $36 but now it is $60!!!

Gone swimmin'
Pros:- small and light- does what it's supposed to do- beeps loud enough to hear under waterCons:- hard to read- finicky, confusing programming- not cheap considering its limited usesBought this at my swim coach's recommendation. Nothing wrong with it but I'm not sure what she likes about it.
