IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU HOT!
First of all, it's almost impossible to find just a regular zippered mattress protector without a bunch of features I don't want - don't care about waterproof, or mites or bedbugs. Just want to keep my new mattress nice. This one came the closest. I think it is waterproof but UNLIKE the other two I bought, it isn't hot. It says it breathes and it does! There is not that plastic-y crackling sound when you lay on it. It was not the cotton fabric I had hope for - feels/looks more like paper, maybe that non-woven poly stuff but it's acceptable. Sleeping well.

VERY HARD TO GET ONTO A FUTON MATTRESS
The fabric softened up after washing, and it appears to be good.HOWEVER....... the zipper part for putting the cover on only goes around the top. My previous cover went from the top all the way around the side which made it much easier to put on and remove. It took my husband and I almost an hour of struggling to get a pair of these onto two twin futons. Perhaps it would be somewhat easier if the mattress was stiff and a slippery fabric, but I would NOT recommend this to anyone who has a traditional cotton covered futon mattress.

Paper-like. We preferred the Hospitology product.
We just bought both this ELF Sleep Safe AND a Hospitology mattress encasement. The prices were nearly identical. This ELF encasement is almost a paper-like material, which I think is evidenced by people suggesting it could "tear" (like in the paper sense). The Hospitology encasement was more of a polyester feel, which I preferred, and it had neat zipper covers.

Useful to save your mattress and comfortable too
For those who have faced bedbug scares or worse, this type of a mattress cover is good to have. It must be kept on for specified number of months to ensure elimination of any bugs encased within (it depends on the bugs and bug eggs life cycle, so proceed carefully). It is comfortable. I washed the cover before using, it was soft and possible to sleep directly on it, but of course most people would cover it with sheets (I covered it with a comforter). As for the bedbug scare, it thankfully did not spread (knock on wood) and was handled by those in the vicinity of the problem (in a condominium) by having an inspector come check their units ($35) and optionally throwing out mattresses, sofas, and other upholstered items and optionally exterminating (two units did this). Fumigating no longer works on bugs (if ever it did) and one must have an experienced exterminator. As condo board member, the potential liability of the problem had it spread is vast. No insurance covers it.This mattress cover saves your most intimate piece of furniture from destruction. Keep this in mind particularly if you prefer having a non-chemically treated mattress or futon (replacement of such is near-impossible under current practices in the U.S.).

Nice, Affordable Option for Severe Asthma/Allergies
A lot of the reviews I read before purchasing were for bedbug protection. Only a few mentioned protection for dust mites and allergens. My 6 year who has been sick for a few months was finally diagnosed with asthma, and a severe allergy to dust mites (among several other things). I decided we quickly needed to get the mattress and pillow case covers to see if that helped. I learned there are a LOT of products out there. Then how did I know which one to purchase? After a night and morning of reviewing products, I decided two things. First, seems there are a lot that work well. Second, if I don't love the one I choose, I can get a different one next time (seems like they only last a year or so). So, based on the good reviews and the affordable price point, I went for this item.First, after reading other reviews, I washed everything when the package arrived. Definitely paper-feeling, but stronger than it looks. I had two twin mattresses to cover, so I just stood the mattresses up on end. After vacuuming them, I decided to try covering my mattresses myself. I think a twin is do-able on your own (if you're tall). I would definitely say two people for any other size. I was very careful, and was successful in covering them without any problem on my own. Also, after covering the mattresses, I put on their standard mattress covers and sheets. I couldn't hear/feel any difference, and they're kids, so they haven't noticed anything. I don't think it sounds crinkly or rough. But definitely still use a regular mattress pad over them. It's only been one night, and I can't say my son has miraculously improved. However, he slept the latest he's slept in weeks, and I have not heard any morning coughing/hacking which is amazing. His airways are so inflamed,it's going to take us weeks to heal his lungs, but it sounds like we're definitely on the right track. I am glad I went with these covers. Hoping this good trend continues!

Good value - nice and soft
Other reviewers said these mattress covers are soft - yes, they are really soft and not noisy at all. Apparently some of the dust-mite barriers are made of a material that makes noise. They are difficult to put on - but I think that's normal for the product. Putting a mattress into a pillowcase isn't easy, but once on, they appear fully functional with covered zippers that won't snag bedding. The package recommendations are to wash every 6-12 months and vacuum when changing linens. These mattress covers are moisture resistant, not waterproof. The product description neglects to note that these covers come with a 10-year performance warranty, which is standard for this type of cover. Don't buy dust-mite protection without the stated warranty. Also, not in the product description, Made in USA! I'm satisfied with these mattress covers.

Mattress protection
I bought this mattress protector mainly to protect my mattress from getting wet, especially during the summer months, which can be pretty warm, and I perspire easily. It completely covers the mattress, so nothing can get in OR out. Although I don't have bugs, it would keep them in, if there was any. It was difficult to put on, as the zipper only goes part way around both sides, I would guess maybe one third of the way down each side from the top. So I had to slip it on, work it up each side a bit, and pull on it, being very careful not to pull too hard, I was afraid of tearing it. Once on, it fits like a glove. And not noisy like some other mattress protectors that use vinyl.
