Q: can this be put on the inner engine hood? or would the heat cause the plastic to melt?

I wouldn't recommend leaving it under your hood all the time. But you could use it when needed working under the hood of your vehicle. The heat would be a major problem also even if it could withstand the heat I don't know about the vibrations and it being able to stay in place while vehicle is in use.

Yes, you can mount the light on the car ceiling, and adhesion promoter will help you fix and stick it greatly. Our lights will not ruin the carpet if you take lights off, except you take the firm metal patch off.

You don't have to have it connected to USB port you charge it ahead of time.
