Yamamotoyama Loose Genmai Cha Green Tea with Roasted Rice, 7.0-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

good flavor budget genmaicha tea
This is a cheaper genmaicha tea. Price is comparable to Hime brand, which is another budget genmaicha sold by Amazon. You get 6 good sized bags of tea for for $20, but you do have to use a lot of tea to get a good flavor. I use 2 full tablespoons of tea with 16 ounces of 170F water, steeping for 1 minute. As with most green teas, you get the best flavor by brewing with water that is somewhat below boiling point. Fancy tea kettles will have a 170F or 175F setting that works well with green tea. The plastic bags that this tea comes in is not very good for storing between usage; I just dump the whole contents in an air-tight metal tea can.

Great deal, SIX 7 ounce kosher packages!
Very good deal for the money you get SIX 7 ounce packets of loose tea.I think the quality of the tea is ok, not as good as you may get in some Japanese restaurants, but a heck of a deal. The mix includes sorghum seeds which POP like popcorn adding to the toasted rice popcorn reputation. And yes I do throw it in a smoothie, kosher is close to organic?I'm still experimenting with temperatures and quantities and in general it's not as toasty strong as I'd hoped.I like this one better than the smokey tea I bought from YamamotoYama. This is a LOT of tea peoples, so be ready to share with somebody.

Very good everyday Genmai-Cha at a very good price
Well, that says it all. Good Genmai-Cha can be ridiculously expensive and inexpensive Genmai-Cha can be awful. I have some of the good stuff for special occasions but I wanted to find something I could afford to drink every day so I tried this one. It is surprisingly good for the price. Green teas can often be used twice (make a cup, then make another cup with the used leaves) but I found that the second use of this tea was rather weak. But since it's so reasonably priced it's not a problem. I've been drinking this tea almost daily for over a year and haven't gotten tired of it.

good fresh-smelling tea reasonably priced
I was skeptical because of the economical cello packaging, but ordered anyhow. The tea was fresh as new cut hay, brewed nicely in a filter-cup. Pleasant golden hue to the drink. The brown rice adds a mild popcorn aroma I quickly got used to, and now like. I can see why green tea with toasted rice is a favorite beverage in Japan!Less caffine than coffee, won't stain teeth like coffee, and has health promoting qualities ... do try.BTW, read a study that coffee can lower IQ by 10 points, but tea does not.Since you aren't supposed to sugar your tea,(it ruins the subtle experience of a brew) you save many calories, too. Taste it plain first. (steep 3 minutes only - you can brew a second time)My purchase lasted for months in an airtight plastic storage jar. It's even decorative (like dry beans or pasta in a jar).

Steep It Only Briefly
Green tea is my favorite tea--and of green teas, genmai is the one I find most delicious. It's almost sweet, has a bit more body and a less sharp taste than the typical "green tea" you get here in the US. This one has some of the qualities of a good Genmai tea, but do not steep it for long or it will become quite bitter. With a brief steeping it is smooth and flavorful. You can probably get at least two, maybe three, steepings per serving.

This is absolutely the best green tea anywhere
This is absolutely the best green tea anywhere. The toasted rice gives it a special rich flavor. I used to buy Gen Ma green tea in small cans from Peet's Coffee. Great product but terribly expensive. This brand is almost identical in flavor (maybe even a little better tasting) for a fraction of the cost. Have added this to my Amazon Subscribe and Save. I expect I will continue to purchase this as long as they make it available.

Lighter flavor, great rice, value purchase
Comparing this to the Harney & Sons brand, and to some local tea shop genmaicha, this is slightly lighter in flavor and depth, very good, with the classic toasted & popped rice kernel taste layered over the green tea.In texture, the leaves are larger with longer pieces of stem than the other brands we've tried. This actually makes it easier to use with a bombilla or strainer because there isn't much powder. The price is amazing for such good quality. If you drink a lot of genmaicha (and who wouldn't?), this is the value purchase.

Yammamotoyamma is never bitter and always lovely to drink.
My favorite tea in bulk! :D I save quite a bit of money by making my own tea bags filled with loose bulk tea. Granted loose tea is not for everyone, but if you like Genmai-Cha tea, and loose tea this one is worth a try. Other brands I have gotten are bitter, but Yammamotoyamma is never bitter, always lovely to drink.

Tasty Tea!
I love popcorn tea and I was looking for a decent alternative to the horrifically overpriced stuff that Teapigs and other health food shops are selling near me.This tea is slightly dustier and more bitter than the popcorn tea I have had from Teapigs and from the sellers at Greenwich Market. Being a recent convert I have only tried three or four varieties but this is very enjoyable. You only need a small teaspoon of the mix for a brew and as I said it is slightly more bitter than the more processed versions I have had. Make sure you strain this using freshly boiled water and it's the most refreshing, comforting tea I have ever had next to a good Jasmine Loose Leaf. Recommended if you love popcorn tea and want to drink it regularly but don't want to break the bank, this is a really good sized serving for the money.

Good value for money
I picked up this product as I was looking for value for money in the first place. One of the reviewers on Amazon.com pointed out the low quality of the product and I agree this is not the best I saw/drank. The leaves seem a bit rough chopped and there is definitely less 'popcorn' rice than in the product I bought previously in a speciality tea shop. The rice gives the tea its unique flavour. As with any speciality product however, it is important to follow some preparation steps. These include: the temperature of the water (not boiling), the dosage (no more tea than required, one teaspoon per teacup) to avoid bitter flavour, abd the infusion time (up to 3 minutes and no more than 3 times), and the type of teapot used (ideally glass or iron cast teapot in my opinion). Once the steps are followed the outcome is a nice cup of green tea.

Five Stars
This tea is very good. It smells like toasted rice as it should and tastes great. It's also a strong tea and only one teaspoon is enough for a 300ml mug for people who prefers their tea not so strong.

Delicious
Love this stuff, drink it all the time. Moved to a new area and the only tea shops selling it were the posh ones that cost £££, happy to say this stuff is just as good and much cheaper.
