It does not need an outside air supply for operation. It does need a way to channel the hot exhaust either outside or into the ceiling or another area that does not need to be cool.

The Airrex HSC-18 will cool an area from approx. 600-800 sq. feet, depending on the amount of ambient heat either in the room or outside. Obviously, as with any climate control device, how well the area is insulated and sealed also has a significant effect on its efficiency.
