I originally bought Musher's Secret Paw Wax to protect my dogs’ paws from hot pavement and rough terrain, and it’s been fantastic. My 8 year old doodle has been struggling with sore paws due to all of the walking that we do with her. I thought I was being careful not taking her out when the pavement was too hot, but apparently not. To soothe & heal her paws, I have been using Musher's Secret every day on her paws when we go out for a walk & also on her paws at night. My additional twist is that I put baby socks on her feet to help those little pads "marinate" & heal. When walking outside, I wrap electrical tape (bc it stays up the best) around each sock & below her dew claws. Works great! She is SO happy & waits patiently for the time it takes me to do this added task.I like the Mushers Secret because the scent is fine (unlike some other brands), it doesn't stain & it seems to give her the healing protection she needs. This is all good- but in the little 2 oz. jar, this product is expensive- especially for how often I am using it! So, I was VERY HAPPY to find this 16 oz. jar of Mushers Secret which came out to be reasonably priced per ounce.

I wish I had taken a before and after photo! My dogs paws were so cracked and raw. He was having issues with allergies and I had no idea. When I tried to go cut his nails, he tried to bite me and that’s when I discovered that his paws were cracked , raw and painful. We bought this product for him and applied it every day for a week and now he is back to allowing me to cut his nails and touch his paws with no issues. They look healthy and I know he feels much better. I would highly recommend this product. It really works!

After a week of using this I noticed a remarkable improvement on my dog's dry, cracked paws. She also seemed to be less bothered by the snow and immense amounts of salt on the sidewalks in our apartment complex. Putting it on her is an ordeal, though. I use a rubber glove to apply it a bit more easily - that way more of it gets onto her than onto me. She hates having her paws touched, especially her front ones, so even though we're giving her lots of treats it's a pain. But none of this is the products fault. The issue with the product, and the one reason I didn't give it five stars, is that the smell is incredibly strong. It's kind of floral and citrusy. I don't mind it, but my dog definitely does. When we're done she rolls around on my bed, rubbing her face on the blankets. Which is kind of irritating. I don't know if the smell is so strong because of important ingredients, or if they thought it was a nice perfume, but it's a real drawback when you're applying it to animals who have sensitive noses. Still, it does do the trick, especially if you can't get your dog to wear boots but live in an area where some sort of paw protection is needed.

Musher's Secret comes in a round container and quickly melts from the heat of your fingers so it applies smoothly, and easily to your dog's paws. When I first started using it, I put way too much on. Less is More. Do not try to fill the spaces between the claws. A thin covering on only the paws is sufficient, and within a few days, the paws will start feeling more pliable, and softer. Without using balm, the paws can become jagged edged, rough, and even cracked. It has a mild, pleasant smell. The best value for the money is the large 16 ounce container. We apply in the evening before he goes to his crate, and apply it once daily, no more. This will not protect your dog's paws from splitting wide open in 120 degree Arizona summer heat on black macadam streets however, so do not expose your family friend to anything more than you normally would. Musher's Secret just keeps the leathery paws moisturized and offers some protection from wintery streets that have been salted. We are using it on our 2nd family dog, and it keeps him happy, and it will keep you happy too! Buy it, it works.

I don't know how this stuff works so well but it does! I got it because my yard gets muddy just before, during and after winter.. My dog, a white golden retriever, loves to run. When he's out in the yard for more than a minute, he gets trashed with mud, and his paws get caked with it. I couldn't believe my eyes the first time I used this mushers secret. His paws were clean after running around in the yard. Yeah he got messy, but his paws which are usually the dirtiest part of him were clean! Unreal! When there's snow on the ground, nothing sticks to his paws, nothing, not even a little! It took a little while for him to get used to me putting this on his paws, but now he just waits til I'm done rubbing it into his paws. You need to get it inbetween the toes and cover his whole paw, topside too. You won't believe how good this stuff works. And it's all natural and doesn't stain.. How can you beat that?! Won't hurt him if he tries to lick it off either.. This stuff is a must have if your dog paws get trashed in the yard. It's worth every penny.. Yes, highly recommended! You can probably find a hundred other uses for it too. I put a little on my snow shovel to keep snow from sticking to it.. A little goes a long way!

Excellent for your dog's paws and for YOUR cuticles and rough spots on your feet, elbows, etc. I live in a RURAL village in Alaska. Everything has to be flown in. I ran out of the things I need to keep things soft so I just borrowed some from my dog.GOOD stuff. No perfumes. Works great. :)Patti
