My wife loves this product. We already had two raclette parties in a matter of week! Raclette cheese can be bough in food markets and they are relatively cheap. One thing though - the cord is VERY short and is a French plug. We got an adapter and an extension cord so not much of an issue.

Was hugely excited to try this as it a long time since living in Europe that I have used one- just remember first of Al it has to be plugged in so keep the cable near a socket away from the action in the tableFor me these come in to their own with jacket potatoes, Emmanuel cheese and a huge salad and played if cooked meals- everyone can have their own drawer and section so you can freely customise your own food- very good for encouraging children to select and choose and cook their own choices- which clearly is not a pizza and encouraged much healthier choices.

The epitome of winter food
Nothing is more wintery than having a raclette party at home. Start by boiling some potatoes (skin on or off, according to your taste), prepare platters of cold cuts (all sorts of hams form France, Italy r Switzerland will do, bacon bits), some pickles and if you want to be good a side green salad, get some pre-sliced raclette cheese, and you are all set. Oh yes, open the windows a bit too...This Tefal raclette instrument is the traditional one. Eight people can have dinner (or only 4 with 2 pans each!) and a lot of fun, eating at your own pace and enjoying this shared winter experience. The top plate is anti stick, but I like tout some aluminium foil, so that when keeping the potatoes warm with the heat, there is no need to wash the top, just a simple rinse.I've also had once a raclette on my own juggling with 3 little pans... Perfect.Top marks for a classic winter kitchen tool.

Good, but not my cup of tea
I must confess I didn't know what a raclette was when I ordered this and to be honest I'm still not entirely sure. It sells itself as a party piece, a little grill cum hot plate to put on the table so you can all cook food together. My wife was very keen on making pancakes with it, so we invited some friends over and we gave it a go.The raclette itself is very good quality, lots of lovely Tefal non-stick and a hot point indicator thing to tell you when it's hot enough to cook on. The little trays are quite cute. Everything is very light and easy to clean; all you should need to wash are the trays and the plate on top, which lifts off easily. The trouble is none of us were really entertained by it. It was nice that everyone could cook exactly what they wanted and to their liking, but in essence there were four chefs of varying ability in the kitchen. That's a recipe for confusion, mistakes, and "sorry, was that yours?" It was kind of fun but also kind of annoying. Since it doesn't do anything you can't already do in the kitchen, we all decided one of us would just use the cooker next time. But I cannot fault the product itself; it heats up quickly, it's easy to handle, and although I'm not a fan of what it's trying to be, it does it very well. If a raclette party sounds like your kind of fun, I don't think you could go wrong with this.

Rather 80's-ish in a fondue party sort-of-way but well made and a nice present.
Rather 80's-ish in a fondue party sort-of-way but well made and a nice present. Tefal has a good reputation and this works quite well. The central grill (with an underside heating element) works well. This is hot enough to cook food, not just keep it warm. There is a long electrical cable making placing in the centre of a table easy though we still needed an extension lead. The little non-stick trays warm up to melt cheese, etc to pour over your main dish. The biggest disappointment for me was the main instruction booklet, which was simply a bland statement of electrical and safety information. I was expecting a glossy recipe book with inspirational ideas - you know the sort of thing - pictures of a bunch of middle-class people at a dinner party, sitting around with perfect teeth and a mixed race model thrown in for politically correct good measure - but no such luck! If Tefal think this is such a good idea, why no information about how to get the best from it (hence 4 stars)? I checked their website - nothing there too.
