I used this kit yesterday to fix my favorite Tahari heels. Other reviewers complained about the tool that comes with the kit but I have to say mine worked fine. I think it may be a technique issue rather than a problem with the tool. The most important step is to grasp the existing heel tip with the tool, then slowly twist (imagine using a wrench) from side to side, do this gently, the whole point of this step is to "loosen" the pin that's inside the heel itself. Only go from side to side ONCE, then pull straight out....don't wiggle or go back and forth as you are pulling, because you could damage the hole inside the heel. Pick out the size of tip by comparing the ones you pull out of the shoes. These tips are U shaped and don't look very nice if you have an odd sized tip that you take out. Mine measured 9mm by 11mm. The 9 in the kit were to small and the 11 to big. The actual size I needed was 9mm wide by 11 mm long. I am suspecting that is going to be an issue when replacing these tips, for many folks. I went with the 9mm and then ended up with a 2mm gap and it gave an undershot look that I didn't like. I was able to sort this out by very carefully adding 2mm onto the length of the tip using black Shoe Goo. I am a bit anal retentive with my projects and no one else probably would ever notice this gap.....however, I wanted a professional look and it worked like a charm ! I was stunned to find out that you can't order odd size heel tips from say, a shoe supply store, either. Most of them come U shaped in the standard MM size, meaning they're square, not oblong. You'll just have to compensate and extend the length with Shoe Goo if you want the tip to be the exact size as the bottom of the heel you're going to put the tip into. I did not use the tool to pound the tip into the heel. I stuck the tip in the bottom of the heel and tapped with the tool several times to get it lined up and secure, then I pounded to tip in all the way using a granite tile that I have. It worked great. After you tap the tip in, double check to make sure that your heel tip didn't twist. One of mine ended up being a little "off" so I wrapped a washrag around the heel tip, grasped it with the tool and gave it a little tug. The cost to fix these shoes at a repair store would have been $16.00 and the shop I got the quote from is very reasonable.....I can see other places charging 20.00 to 24.00. I think this kit is a great value. I only used 1 pair of tips, so can fix many more pairs. Highly recommend this kit !!!!!

Tool works great removed worn heel caps but the size of the replacements are too small for my heels. Wish they offered more than one size.

I bought a cute pair of boots for NYE and my heel got caught on an escalator step. This tool was perfect with the right grip for pulling the existing nail head of the broken heel tip. I had hubby pull the other tip as well and replace both heels to ensure they matched in height. He was able to secure the replacement tip easily by sticking the new tip on the counter. Such an affordable and easy fix. Took minutes.

This product delivers on the simplicity, and variety on the amount of stilettos you can fix. That being said, the pegs are hard brittle plastic. The extraction tool is definitely something you can use for years. The good thing about the heel pegs is that you get a couple pair for each size. I would buy this product again, if you have the experience, and patience to replace the hard plastic when it breaks again. Overall, I am very pleased with this product. You’re getting your moneys worth for sure!

This tool kit has saved so many heels!!

I was VERY careful of how I used the tool to remove damaged tip. Cut heel tip X2. Off to the Cobbler. I worked on left heel (right in picture) for about 10 minutes, very slow and steady movements and then SNAP. Half of the heel tip went flying across room.

I had several heels that needed the tips replaced. I’m not a cobbler but I felt like one after I fixed 4 of my heel tips! I love that it comes with the tool to remove the tips and comes in many different size tips. The heel tips are very sturdy and durable. Now I want to find more heels to fix!
