A pilot *MUST* have.
Using this with a Hero 4 Silver, Bose A20 and a Grumman AA5 (also bought the CamKix Frame, you will need a 'skeleton' frame to access the USB port).I use it mainly as a training debrief tool, the audio quality is excellent, and option to attach a USB power bank is also great, as along with a nice big SD card the camera can roll for 8+ hours so I can concentrate on flying and don't get distracted by the camera.Edit: As has been mentioned the GoPro can get rather warm if it is charging via an external battery pack while filming. However the GoPro will operate via external power pack connected to this cable with it's internal battery removed. This seems to keep thing cooler, and also removes the issue of forgetting to turn on the external power bank and the GoPro shutting down when its internal battery runs out.

Do not buy
Absolute rubish!!!! Tried to connect my go pro hero 3 and doesn't record anything! Tried on piper and Cessna ...doesn't work!!

Great tool for recording sound.
I purchased this item and now i am using it in every flying lesson i make. You cannot imagine what difference it makes. You can listen clearly every conversation you had with the instructor or the atc. Also it helps a lot to review your flight afterwards. In case you 've missed or missheard something your instructor said, this product has recorded it clearly in your video. Also, it is very simple to use. One end of the cable is larger than the other so you cant mix/miss the connections between the cable-plane-camera! Is straight farword! Highly recommended.

This cable is perfect for recording all cockpit audio. Some reviews state that the cable length at 5 feet is too short. I don't find this a problem as the audio cable does not need to be plugged into your headset. It can plug into any headset socket, even if there's no headset connected So, when I'm flying on my own (C172) I plug it into the co-pilot's socket. The audio quality is perfect.
