Q: Can these oats be cooked in a slow cooker?

I'm sure they can, but I have never cooked them that way. It doesn't take that long to cook them the old-fashioned way.

Q: I have been using the quick cooking version but would like to try the regular steel cut oats but I do not see the cooking directions anywhere.

There's a few ways to cook this. The one and only method we use is as follows: 2 quart Nonstick pot with tight fitting lid 1 cup......Steel cut oats 4 cups....Water Soak steel cut oats in water, overnight. This helps breakdown the oats. In the morning, bring contents to a low, slow-rolling boil, turn stove down to simmer and cook for 30 minutes. Keep a watch on that pot before the boil...such an ugly, mess to cleanup. Oatmeal will boil up and out so fast...DO NOT COOK ON HIGH. The quantity noted here will serve 4. Any leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated later.

The tin lists the ingredients as 100% whole grain Irish steel-cut oats. There is no mention of any other ingredients--no salt, no sugar, etc.

Q: Can this be prepared in the microwave?

Absolutely! Here's what I do - 2 Cups of Steele Cut Oatmeal ("SCO") + 8 Cups of Water (1 to 4 ratio). Use extra large (like 16 to 20 cup) Pyrex bowl. Microwave on high for 40 minutes +/-. Comes out perfectly. Eat whatever amount you want, then store the rest in the refrigerator for later. Refrigerated SCO keeps INCREDIBLY well for at least a week if not more. To reheat, microwave for 3 to 3.5 minutes which results in SCO that is IMO just as good as when first prepared in a fraction of the time. Always maintain the 1-to-4 SCO-to-liquid ratio (water, milk cream, whatever). For smaller amounts, reduce microwave time. For a 1/2 cup of SCO + 2 cups liquid, microwave for 25 to 30 minutes. For 1 cup of SCO + 4 cups liquid, microwave for 30 to 25 minutes, etc.
