Vikings heed a good product.
I bought my wife and I each a Kinghtweave cloak and if you sling the cloak wrong over your shoulders it almost chokes you. I bought this to prevent that and it does the job with not problem. It is forged and sturdy; I like the rustic look which is why I bought this one. It may be cheap but the quality is not and worth every penny.

Has a sooty residue, but it can be fixed!
I ordered this cloak pin on a whim before bed, so I didn't read the reviews and did not see the previous comments regarding the black soot residue. I was in my bedroom when I started working on rectifying this soot issue, so I utilized what I had in my room: rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, and baby wipes. Unlike another reviewer, I did not have beeswax and I'm sure something more... rustic... would have been a great choice, but I did what I could :PI noticed that the pin felt gritty and that another reviewer mentioned sanding it down. Since most of the black was wearing off anyway, I sanded it down with the only sandpaper I had. Once I did that, I washed it off with soap and dried it as well as I could. No more residue came off after that!First picture = sooty, just from unpacking it (but I did wipe off some so I could move my blanket to get to my phone)Second picture = after sanding, washing, drying, AND after harshly rubbing my hands against it to test for more residue.Ratings...4/5 stars for Value for Money. It feels good and it didn't break the bank.5/5 stars for Sturdiness. The thing is pretty weighty.3/5 stars for Easy to Use. (I haven't used it yet.)I will be driving it through sheepskin material, so I don't think I'll care about how big of a hole it leaves but I have yet to get the material. My goal is to use the material like a fur capelet around a linen cape. I might set it up so I can wear/remove the fur capelet without undoing the cloak pin, so I might not experience the pin leaving gaping holes.

Perfect for heavy woolen cloaks!
I have owned this pin for over a year now, and I'm actually about to order a second one. Not because there's anything wrong with the first, mind you, but because it's SO DAMN GOOD. I wear a woolen cloak through winter in a viking style, and this pin is the only one that didn't bend or break. It's heavy duty and HUGE. It can hold together not only my cloak, but my bear fur mantle I wear that I use as a scarf/hood. I've decided that I'd rather my bear mantle be a separate piece, so I'm ordering another one of these pins to hold it together.Be advised, though, this is not something that's tiny and decorative. The tongue is pretty thick and this WILL leave holes in your cloak. I recommend pinning your cloak and then leaving it be. When you take off the cloak, simply slip it over your head and leave it pinned. If you find it necessary to unpin your cloak to fold it up or use it with a pack frame as a backpack, just look for the holes when it's time to pin it back together and that should stop you from having a ton of holes all over your garment. It's large enough that it could almost be disassembled into an awl and a viking arm ring.Speaking of; it does make an excellent awl in the field.I suggest wiping it down before use as it's shipped having been oiled slightly to keep it from corroding in transit. I took a wire brush to mine as it still had a bit of scale on it from forging then let it patina naturally to the color I desired and from there I use mineral oil to coat it every few months (it's iron, it'll rust) after wiping it down thoroughly to remove any oils from my fingers.

I love this product.
I need to hold my poncho but I didn’t like those that were around on Amazon. But it has a big size and it hold the poncho very well. The needle is very pointy but it hold really well. They are made with great material. When you receive it it has oil on the bag. I am thinking about the corrosion so it will not affect the product. But I love it.
