is this actually real Damascus steel?

Honestly there is no way I know of to tell. It certainly looks it, but how was it forged? I am not knowledgeable enough in metalworking to tell you. Don't think you would be disappointed, it's a really nicely made knife.

Can it be used for hunting

In hunting, do you mean for skinning, gutting the quarry? Yes it could be used for that in small animals but larger, I would not say its satisfactory.. This knife is technically UK legal and does not lock & under 3 inches blade length, a lock knife or fixed blade is more suitable for the aforementioned as there is no risk of the blade folding when using although there is a certain degree of resistance to close/open in this model etc. The blade is sharp and holds it knife edge longer before need sharpened.
