Volkswagen Window Regulator - 1Y0-837-461F

This product is exactly what has needed. Driver's side power window regulator failed on my wife's 2008 VW convertible Beetle. One of the ABS plastic cable guides had worn through and as soon as the steel cable started to rub against the metal frame of the regulator, it snapped. When I searched Amazon, I didn't notice a special entry for Beetle Convertible and ordered a replacement window regulator for a non-convertible Beetle. Of course, the non-convertible and convertibles are almost entirely two different cars. I then ordered the correct window regulator kit for the Convertible Beetle. It came with the cable, a new plastic gear and spring-loaded tensioner. I spent 2 days attempting to get it mounted onto the existing metal rails. The steel cable had zero slack and it is apparent that some took is needed to stretch the steel cable to mount it on the tracks. After many cuts and bruises, I physically removed 1-cm of steel cladding from the cable casing to create more slack. I put the door back together and the replacement assembly failed within 4 weeks. I then ordered this part, which included the metal tracks, motor plate, polymer gear assembly, pre-mounted steel cables, and a pre-sprung tensioner. The cables were even crossed at the correct position and secured with a cable tie. It took some time to carefully mount the new system, attach the window with the supplied clamps and new bolt, reassemble the door, electronic connections and inside door cover and now the window works like a champ. A simple position adjustment of the bottom rail positions and the window tucks correctly under the lip of the convertible top. The window also properly drops 2 cm on opening and raises the final 2 cm after closing to form a tight seal against the convertible top.1) Make sure you order parts for the CONVERTIBLE Beetle.2) Don't purchase only the cable portion of the replacement window regulator (your time and sanity is worth more than the cost savings)3) Order this part and replace the entire power window system, tracks, cables, plate, and gears. The passenger-side window is on the non-ATM side of the car, so I don't expect it to fail soon. But when it does, I will be purchasing the passenger-side version of this part.

Great OEM product from Authorized Dealershhip. Competitive price to similar aftermarket regulator replacement. After adjusting glass to line up correctly to window frame, everything worked perfect.I tried to just replace cable assembly without track, but cable assembly must be so tight that I broke window clamp where cable end mounts. It is not worth the trouble to avoid buying the track assembly in the front doors, and only would have saved $50 (wasted $145) by trying.I replaced both rear windows with just the cable assembly and was barely was able to stretch cable enough to fit correctly. The rear windows are much more difficult to replace, just a FYI.I will keep this VW dealership in mind for future purchaces.

I tried two other less expensive parts and they just didn’t fit properly. I balked at paying so much but this part installed perfectly and easily and worked perfectly.

Part will not work with Convertible register without removing window motor mounting plate which easily allows the cabling spool to disengage and spring away from it's housing. Thus causing major angst when re-spooling cable back onto spool and major difficulty in re-cabling regulator which you just paid major bucks. When carefully removing motor housing, pin spool so it cannot inadvertently pop out of the housing. Remount old housing. and continue. or buy the re-cable kit and shorten short cable sheath 1/2", mount motor plate and its home free, and much cheaper.

Part delivered well within the time frame, in excellent condition. I am not a VW mechanic but have been repairing cars for many years. ( to many). I am an EMS Helicopter Mechanic so I know the value of safety, time and cost effectiveness. Changing the regulator assembly is the only way to go.. You are going to hurt yourself, cost yourself valuable time and have a less than desirable outcome by using a repair kit. Just say NO! Replacement of the VW Convertible front window regulator is not the easiest home garage job I have done but also not the worst. VW YouTube video is some help but they add steps that are not required and complicate the job. If you have the tools and mechanical aptitude this is not a bad job. estimate (2 Hours). If you don,t find a friend that does, this could be an all afternoon adventure.

I was happy to purchase this product at a significantly lower price than the local dealer (the dealer wanted over $300 with sales tax). It appears to be original equipment and seems to work just fine after installation.
