Does this case fit the new A7 iv?

I don't think it will work. The Sony a7 rIV has a bigger grip. Amazon sells the identical thing made to fit. I bought this one, and it worked fine on my rIV: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08722WSN5?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details

Looks like very poor fitment around the grip? Can someone verify?

I wouldn't say it's poor, but it's not perfect either. Been using it for two weeks while traveling in japan. Was very comfortable all around, and I would recommend it despite of it not fitting perfectly.

Has the problem of the case blocking the lens release button been resolved?

I never had that problem, it was always easy to release the lens with the case on
