Gets the job done
I bought the 8,500 BTU ASHRAE / 5,000 BTU SACC model. It has performed well in a kids bedroom with full exposure to the afternoon sun. Set at 74°, it has no trouble maintaining that temperature while the temperature outside is well over 90°, even with the bedroom door standing open to the un-cooled 80° hallway.Nameplate rating is 9.0 amps, but it only draws that much at startup. Sustained draw is around 725w/6a, low enough that it would be possible to put a pair of these in two rooms which share an electrical circuit. It's a bit buzzy when running. I have a larger 12,000 BTU Whynter unit in another room and somehow that one is a bit quieter than this B&D unit. It's still a reasonable sound level, doesn't wake up my toddlers when it kicks on in the night or disrupt our bedtime stories. The "auto fan speed" mode that shuts the blower down when the compressor isn't running also is quite nice for some periods of silence, and isn't available on my Whynter.Window kit is thoughtfully designed and easy to assemble. It fit my window nicely using long and short pieces together, not fully extended. The kit also came with some self-adhesive foam weatherstripping for the edges of the window kit, a thoughtful touch. However the provided strips weren't long enough for my install, came up about half a foot short on each side, so it wasn't useful. You'd think if they thought to put it in, they'd put enough for when it's at full extension? The hose attachments at both ends are a good twist-and-lock design that's hard to accidentally pull apart. No storage cover/bags for the off-season, are provided, though.On-unit controls are very sensitive to accidental touch by kids and their toys (or just brushing up against it as you walk by). There's no child lock-out feature, so the only option is to tape a box over the controls. Many features can only be accessed from the remote anyway, and the remote does have a function display, so there's not a lot of downside to blocking the on-unit controls.Would buy again. No regrets.

Saving my sanity
For twelve years, I endured an upstairs room like an oven, because my rental has sliding windows. Finally, an appropriate portable that didn't cost the earth, very easy to install, and does a great job.

Not an efficient option but it works
I have casement windows (the kind you have to crank out) so a portable AC was my only option in my immediate price range. I would say this particular unit is ok for cooling an average size bedroom but that's it.Here's the negative that I'm learning about portable AC units: All of the heat that they make, doing what they do has to be pumped to the outside. Well that creates a vacuum as you might imagine. Air goes out so it has to come from somewhere else to replace what left. Essentially it's pulling hot humid air from elsewhere in the house. We have had a hot humid summer so far and this thing is making buckets of water. I have the AC elevated and a drain hose running to a 5 gallon bucket below it. It will produce/drain about 3-4 gallons overnight while we sleep. So I have water dumping chores to do throughout the day and the humidity stays super high since it's constantly pulling in humid air from elsewhere in the house. I liken this thing to a fireplace. It will serve it's purpose but it's horribly inefficient. I'm no HVAC pro, but that's my assessment.

Nice cold air
Great air conditioner, easy to set up, easy to use, and is a life-saver in hot weather. Would buy again.

Not mobile and no real warranty
The AC works and there's no leakage so far. However, this isn't a very mobile AC (despite the wheels) because the adjustable window panel requires either metal screws or a flimsy plastic screw that broke after a week. I contacted their warranty center and they still haven't responded after a month. I ended up coming up with my own solution, but if the AC actually broke, then I'm screwed. Honestly, if I had known the promised warranty was useless, I would have just bought one of those cheap off-brand ACs.

works great in our little bedroom
We live in a small house that has a working AC unit, but it's old. The nights have gotten warm here in AZ, so instead of running the unit all night, to cool the whole house, we bought this. It takes a minute, as you have to vent it to the outside. We have casement windows, and that took a bit of tweaking, but we figured it out.The unit cools our bedroom immediately. It is about 100 square feet, and we close the door at night to keep the cool air in. The remote has a sleep mode, where it dims the light on top and will go off after six hours. We've kept the unit between 78 and 79 degrees, and at those temps, we have to use a sheet and a light blanket over us. So it has lots of power. It has a satisfying white noise when it runs, and when it gets to the temp you've selected, it goes off until the temp rises again. The fan doesn't run unless you turn that option on.It has wheels, so theoretically could be rolled from room to room, but then you'd have to figure out how to vent it. We're keeping ours in the bedroom.I would buy this unit again. Very happy to be cool at night and not stress over the old AC unit going out!I don't know about energy effeciency

Great AC unit!!
I would give this a 4.8 out of 5 stars! I have been using this for over a month everyday. Staying at a friend house in AL during the summer months and this was a life saver. I’m one of those who can’t sleep hot and this has been the best. It is a tad noisy but it takes the place of my white noise now and the lights on the screen are a tad bright for me when I’m sleeping so I have to lay something over it. But beside that best investment in an AC unit by far.
