Q: What material is used for the weight itself?

Gray on the bottom and red on the top. It looks like some sort of velour. Very durable with gray reinforced edges. I use my 1 lb. weight strapped to my wrist when I am eating. My neurologist recommended it to control my hand tremors. No more oatmeal on the floor!

Q: Being 1 to 2.5 pounds, are they really that effective. i dont understand how that low of weight will help with anything

Despite being 1 to 2.5 pounds, the cuff weights are effective. Used primarily for rehabilitation and sports training, TheraBand Ankle & Wrist Weights train, tone and strengthen muscles. Q: Can these weights be used in the pool?

The covering fabric is not waterproof. I suspect the weights would quickly become waterlogged, thereby becoming much heavier.

Q: Do these weights smell? Chemical smell? Thanks!

Both my daughters needed these weights for sports training. No one noticed a chemical smell on them.
