If you looking into reviews of this book, then you obviously read his first 2 and like them as well. This vol has 50 more problems of hand examples. It also allows you to grade yourself to see how well you do.

Some other reviewers have suggested that you can buy this book separately from the other two volumes, but I would strongly suggest you read all of them in order!This book is exactly what the title suggests - a WORKbook. For that reason, it's not well-suited for the Kindle, which is why the publisher hasn't made it available as an e-book. You are supposed to write in it. This volume puts into practice all the theory that you've (hopefully) read in Vol 1 and 2. You will likely have a pencil tucked into the volume at all times.The best part of this book are the very last few pages - the appendix, if you will. The vast majority of the book presents you with scenarios where you are given multiple-choice questions as to what your decision should be. You transfer your scores from the questions at the end of each problem (50 problems total with about 4 questions each problem), total it up, and the book gives you an assessment. I'm better informed now, but as I answered the questions the first time around I scored 385, which is just below "a very good player who should show a solid profit in tournaments." I'd say that's because I read Volumes 1 and 2! I think going through the book again, I could easily score 450.One fun thing I found to do is to search on YouTube for many of the hands presented in this book. Several aren't just theoretical scenarios - they are taken from major tournaments with real professional players. It's like reading a movie script and then watching the film.Harrington's approach is often called conservative, or even nitty, but I disagree. He merely advocates picking your spots. In a tournament, this is important - you usually only have one life to live, and these are tournament books after all.Also at the end of the book is not just an assessment of how you did, but a list of what mistakes you tend to make most often! Mistakes are categorized as either pre-flop or post-flop errors, and are given titles like "Over-reliance on reads", "Excessively tight play", and "Properly sizing your bet", among many others. You take all the answers where you failed to get the most possible points, and find out what your which category your wrong decision falls under. I am currently working through this final part of the book and it is alarming to see how often I make the same sorts of mistakes. It gives me an opportunity to identify my problems and read through the sections of the book(s) that address proper play in those situations.The brilliance of this book is that it allows you to do just that, and does a good job of it. It's second to having a pro player sit behind you, take notes of how you play, and give you feedback, but as you can imagine, that kind of coaching costs quite a bit of money! Asking questions on messageboards are fine, but I often find explanations from others lacking, and often there is a hive-mind phenomenon. Harrington makes his case easily and with authority.If you've read Volumes 1 & 2, I'd highly suggest getting a new copy of this book. Take it seriously, and treat it like a textbook. Don't cheat yourself - score your answers correctly, so that you can give yourself an honest assessment. If I ever find myself in a multi-day casino tournament, I'll be sure to have Harrington's books on the ready after each day's play.

Each volume is crammed full of information. Harrington offers a real insight in to the thought process and knowledge necessary to navigate all aspects of the game. I have played poker against many people who greatly over estimate their ability. Read Harrington volumes 1 to 3 and you will be a far better player than those who have studied a little, think they know everything, and consequently remain stagnant. I would recommend Harrington to an intermediate player who still has a lot to learn. The shear volume of information in each book will teach the average player how little he really knows and how much there is to learn. Although there is a lot to learn, Harrington's instruction is easy to understand and apply. If you don't read his books you may as well play any 2 cards.

Das ist Teil 3 zu den sehr guten und mittlerweile auch sehr erfolgreichen Büchern von Dan Harrington über No-Limit-Tournament-Poker. Wie in Teil 1 und 2 geht es hier ebenfalls darum, die Fähigkeiten der Leser bei den entsprechenden Hold'em-Turnieren zu verbessern. Aber auch wer nicht selbst spielt, aber Poker im Fernsehen beobachtet hat, wird diesen Sport nach dem Lesen der Bücher besser verstehen - notfalls reicht ja auch einfach das Lesen einiger Auszüge.Dem ernsthaften Spieler bleibt allerdings intensive Arbeit nicht erspart. Bereits in den ersten beiden Büchern fand sich der Höhepunkt in den Poker-Problemen, die im Anschluss an die theoretischen Kapitel dem Leser gestellt wurden. Harringtons Stärke ist dabei die Darstellung von Entscheidungskriterien anhand konkreter, teilweise sogar wirklich in Turnieren gespielter Hände. Dabei gibt es - ähnlich wie vielleicht beim Schach - viele verschiedene Entscheidungsparameter, die durchaus auch widersprüchlich sein können. Aber Harrington zeigt dem Leser Wege durch diese Probleme und erläutert, wie theoretische Konzepte in der Praxis angewandt werden können.Teil 3 konzentriert sich ausschließlich auf Probleme. Zuerst wird die Ausgangsituation der Hand dargestellt - die Karten, die Position des Spielers, das Verhalten der anderen Spieler in der Vergangenheit, die aktuellen Chipstände und die Höhe der Blinds. Dann wird die Hand Entscheidung für Entscheidung durchgegangen. Zu jeder Entscheidung (Check, Bet, Call, Raise oder Fold) erhält der Leser eine Auswahl von möglichen Handlungsalternativen. Im Anschluss an die Hand wird dann das ganze noch einmal wiederholt. Diesmal werden die Entscheidungskriterien der Spieler erläutert. Für jede der im Problem auftauchenden Handlungsalternativen wird eine Punktzahl vergeben, anhand der Leser bewerten kann, wie er mit seiner Entscheidung gelegen hätte.Diese Bewertung ist deshalb so spannend, weil nicht immer die statistisch richtige Spielweise im Poker auch gewinnen muss. Ziel ist ja nicht, jede Hand zu gewinnen, sondern das Turnier. Und deshalb sind die Bewertungen auch hilfreich und wenn man systematisch versucht, jedes Problem auf Basis der eigenen Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen zu lösen und das mit der Empfehlung von Harrington vergleicht, dann wird man auch von dem Buch profitieren. Das setzt allerdings ein konzentriertes und diszipliniertes Durcharbeiten des Buches voraus. Aber Konzentration und Disziplin sind ja ohnehin Erfolgsvoraussetzungen beim Poker.Ich muss gestehen, ich bin nicht im jeden Fall mit dem Autor über die richtige Spielweise einig. Aber das muss auch gar nicht sein. Harrington selbst geht eigentlich nicht davon aus, dass es immer ein richtiges Spiel geben muss - der Text lässt durchaus Variationen zu. Harrington ist eben kein Dogmatiker. Und auch Flexibilität im Denken hilft beim Poker.
