Do these work on a ceiling lamp

Technical words escape me. I think it is "ceiling rose" with a single wire hanging down with a bulb holder attached. The sort of thing in the centre of every ceiling in every room in any home in the UK. This is the thing that screws onto then bottom of the bulb ho;lder to secure a lampshade before you fit the bulb. If you are in the UK and the bulb holder is relatively modern, it should fit.

Does this fitting enable a large lampshade for screw fitting bulb to be fitted to an old Edison bayonet fitting lamp?

I bought this to fit a lamp shade in our dining room just after moving home. This skirt screws in after fitting the shade to hold it in place and I bought it because the previous owners had taken it with them or something.
