So I wanted to make an arm knit throw for my papa, but part of the tutorial mentioned ‘needle felting’ which… I had never done before. Honestly, I had mostly only heard of ‘wet felting’ before… but this was an important throw and if I needed to learn I would!Except I am very prone to auditory overstimulation, so instructed videos were out. Now what? Long story of procrastination and psyching myself up (only to do an about face and repeat the process) short, I had decided on finding a simple kit to learn what I needed to from and this. This was that simple (special) kit I found.It came with everything I thought I needed, wasn’t some complicated, big ol’ thing full of excess pieces I would probably never get around to doing after I learned what I needed (ha!), was very cute so I probably wouldn’t waste any learning attempts and was pretty reasonable in price. It hit alllllll the marks! I could learn this in a couple hours tops and then move onto my arm knitting project!And then I made my first cactus.It was… okay… but I could do better! There was plenty left over to do better! (plus, like, a whole other kind of cactus with its wool amount left untouched if I really, really screwed it all up.) So, I made a second one. And it was better!It’s just, well, I could do even better still! I just needed to focus and apply what I’ve learned already!…This was no longer about an arm knit blanket. Like, at all. This was about needle felting some good looking cacti and I did.I did it and a big part of that was because this kit is full of a generous amount of supplies and such simple instructions with pictures that are easy to follow. You can really just set the amount of wool you’re using (because I had no way of weighing/measuring what they stated) and still make a pretty awesome, funky lil cactus (and smaller and smaller of those babies, if you so choose to by manner of judging your wool usage with an unknowing eye). It contains a couple different methods other than “stab this and do it a lot” so you can incorporate them later on in other projects, too!It’s basically the gateway kit, in my opinion, to learning needle felting, getting a good feel for all the possibilities and, in doing so, finding yourself with a brand new crafting addiction. And (once again, in these trying times) it’s nicely priced so you can drag all your friends down with you into the throws of your new addiction. :D
