Kawaii Tarot Deck: A 78-Card Tarot Deck of Magic and Cute (Little Mystics' Cute Tarot)

Cute and Kick Ass
I will be honest, I had ZERO expectations for this deck (beyond it being functional, obviously) I bought this deck to offer to clients; I wanted a modern deck that had clean, uncluttered art work to offer clients who are uncomfortable or put off by the occulty/witchy/esoteric Imagery of typical tarot decks.Well, Shut Me Up! This deck is flipping amazing; fun, vibrant, gives me accurate and honest reading, with unique art and a point of view!To Start, The Negatives- Most of these are not negatives in my opinion, but are the parts of this tarot deck that Vary most from the traditional RWS decks, and I often see being discussed as “negative” traits.- Size: These cards are much smaller then standard tarot deck size. They are more inline with playing cards in terms of size. I’m a women, with smaller hands and I actually really enjoy cards this size as they tend to be easier for me to shuffle and use.- Pips: The Minor Arcane are all “Pip” cards. Personally, I am not put off by pip cards. I know they tend to really bother intuitive reader, but this is a personal preference and may be a deal breaker for you.- Card Stock: I am, again, reminded of playing cards. I prefer my cards a little thicker but they shuffle nicely and feel buttery.- The Box: So cute! Such a pain to take in and out over and over again. Once again, I personally do not care as I keep mine in a tarot bag, but it’s not a very functional designPositives- The Art: My personal deck is the Morgan-Greer Tarot: fully illustrated cards, full color, no frames, just images bursting to the edge of the card. I thought for sure I would feel no connection to the simple and clean art of the Kawaii Tarot but I feel that by trimming the fat, so to speak, Diana Lopez’s art just cuts through the bull. Vibrant colors, and smart art choices convey meaning in all the majors so well! If you are looking for art that is different from the 500 RWS colones on the market I recommend you give these a gander. A break from the usual tarot images.- No Defined Gender/Race: The Kawaii Tarot’s Court characters are all faces in various pastel shades, illustrated simply with closed eyes and smiles. They have no discerning genders or racial backgrounds, making them “humanoid” but not even distinctly human. Bodies are not illustrated (just heads with no necks. See my pics) While this is not inclusive in the way a tarot deck like The New World Tarot is, it is still a break from the stuffy, gendered and very white RWS deck and allows for anyone to see themselves in the story and cards. Additionally, the lovers is simply two hearts and a vine, not the usual, and typically heterosexual pair usually seen on this card.- The Book: Cant Say enough good about this. These are usually poor, but this one is very good with really nice thought out descriptions for each cards and tons of layouts (besides the damn Celtic Cross) in the front! Hallelujah!- vibes/readings: very accurate. I feel like this deck gives simple, no nonsense truths: vibes to match the simple, no nonsense art. I find it friendly, with good guidance and lots of love, but, no bull.- Backs- Full Reversible! (Meaning you can not tell if a card is reversed before you flip it over.) Whimsical star motif, very cute and fits with the overall art and theme!Oh and did I mention they are super Freaking cute and femme And fun? Cuz they are brilliantIf you are on the fence I say “try it! It’s new and unique!”

CUTE! Not great for beginners, though
This tarot deck is SO cute! And it gives super accurate readings. I’ve used it only to read for myself so far, but every time, it has been accurate, even when I don’t want to hear the truth, LOL.It’s a very sweet-looking and approachable deck, so it’s *excellent* for giving readings to clients or friends who are sensitive or who get freaked out by the “darker” imagery in more traditional tarot decks (Death, The Tower, Ten of Swords, etc.). That’s actually why I bought this kawaii deck for myself: I’m a new-ish tarot reader, highly sensitive and intuitive, and the original RWS deck is a leeeettle too gruesome for me. I’m not bothered by the archetypes/narratives represented by the “darker” cards — clearly they signify the spectrum of ups and downs in life — but terrifying illustrations affect me! There are none of those in this deck, fortunately. Even The Tower is just downright adorable. (By that same token, this deck might not be everyone’s cup of tea if you do prefer darker imagery.)Anyway, the Kawaii Tarot is based off the standard RWS deck, same major/minor arcana, suits, pips, and court cards — so if you read that, you’ll be able to read this deck, too.The cards are the size of standard playing cards and have excellent slip, making them easy to shuffle. Because they’re smaller than standard tarot cards, this will likely be my travel set.The guidebook is surprisingly comprehensive, much better than the standard LWB (little white book) that comes with most tarot decks. There’s also an app for this deck! The packaging is clever — I’m a graphic designer by day and can see how smartly this was designed — but the two boxes in which the cards arrive are difficult to open without tearing. I certainly don’t want to damage mine, so I keep my deck in a velvet pouch, in which I also placed a stick of selenite and a clear quartz (as I do with all my tarot decks) for perpetual clearing, charging, and highest vibrations. The one downside to this adorable tarot is that the images are so simplified that it’s almost impossible to intuit or discern the meanings behind the cards unless you already have fluency in the tarot. For instance, the image for The Fool is a jester’s cap with a white rose coming out of the top. I get that the white rose symbolizes innocence, but what’s lost is the very necessary visual (in my opinion) of the fool about to walk off a cliff, which signifies taking a leap, starting something new, and possibly getting into trouble for lack of situational awareness. Like other reviewers have mentioned, for that reason I do not feel this is a good deck for absolute beginners. If you’re a beginner and you’re drawn to this kawaii deck, by *all means* buy it — but also get another deck at the same time (also based on RWS) with more elaborate illustrations so you can easily learn to intuit card meanings. I recommend Llewellyn's Classic Tarot for beginners, as the illustrations are highly intuitive and immediately comprehensible upon first sight, and the large accompanying book explains every single symbol on every card, which I find essential to developing one's fluency in the tarot.

A Good deck for beginners!
(sorry for lack of images, I don't have a camera right now,,)edit: Some reviews say "for experienced users"?? I say don't let that discourage you, because as someone who just started practicing today with this deck, it's really helped me, and the booklet has lots of good information on how to do some basic spreads and good info on interpreting them. I personally like this as a beginner deck.So this is my first deck ever, and I wanted something easy to read, simple, and attractive to sort of get me started! A friend of Mine, who's been studying tarot for a LOT longer than I have, Recommended this deck to me as a Starter, and now that I have used it a bit, here's what I have to say.Visually, I LOVE it! I've seen a few reviews saying that the craftsmanship wasn't great but? In my opinion, I love everything about it! The packaging design is amazing, the cards are small and easy to hold, and the designs are simple and easy to interpret! Again, I'm a beginner in the most blatant way. I've never used the cards before, aside from having readings done by others, and it was easy for me to tell what each suit was! The booklet layout was easy to navigate and had some really good info for each card that's easy to follow! From a practicing/using standpoint, I also found the cards really really good for my readings! The simple and cute theme really connected for me. If you're like me and like your designs simple and easy on the eyes, but still attractive, then this is a really good deck. I can't say too much since, again, I am still learning, I feel that this is a really good deck for those looking to introduce themselves to the practice, even at entry-level.
