Great Idea, Seriously Underwhelming Performance
I wanted the convenience of using my electric bike batteries to power my 80 Lb Wave Walker kayak. I weigh 240 lbs. Max tail wind assisted speed achieved was according to GPS was approximately 3 MPH.As someone who lives on 23 miles of fresh waterways, including two lakes and multiple protected, shallow water canals, I envisioned motorizing my kayak to explore these serene landscapes with ease. My goal was to motor to protected canal, enjoy a leisurely paddle, and then motor back home. My avg paddle speed is a little over 2 MPH. This motor's performance is seriously underwhelming compared to a typical 55 lb thrust 12-volt trolling motor.Motor PROS:1. It appears well built.2. An accurate voltmeter is mounted on top surface of motor cover3. Weighs about 28 lbs.4. 48-volt brushless DC motor which means I can use existing 48-volt electric bike light weight lithium batteries.5. Looks like a traditional outboard.6. No worries about shear pins, bent or broken motor shaft or propeller.7. Runs great, and reasonably quiet.8. Power cord has a 3-prong computer type female plug (C13) and comes with a C14 (male) pigtail with ring connectors making it easily adaptable to your battery connections.Motor CONS:1. Disappointing performance. I can paddle a little over 2 MPH in calm conditions. Motor pushes me at GPS measured 3 MPH.2. Product is advertised to develop 4 horsepower. Google states a 1000-watt, 48-volt DC motor produces approximately 1.34horsepower. NOTE: a 12-volt 55 lbs. thrust trolling motor develops approximately 0.83 horsepower. This motor seriously underperforms compared to the 12-volt trolling motor.3. Product advertised to provide 551.16 lbs. thrust. This must be a translation error.4. No reverse.5. Comes with a computer type plug including a pigtail from with ring connectors on one end and male computer type (C13 / C13) plug on the other end. Easy to adapt to your battery connectors. My conclusion: If I just wanted to power my kayak, I would get another 55 lb thrust 12 volt trolling motor. The advantages of already owning several 48-volt lithium batteries made this motor seem like a good option.Photos show the power cord connector, voltmeter in engine cover, motor mounted on stern of kayak, the electric motor under the motor cover, and me motoring at full throttle.

Well equipped and good quality.
The inflatable dinghy I had a couple of years ago gave up the ghost, and I gave the motor (28 pounds thrust) to my neighbor at the marina. When I got a new dinghy this year, I bought this motor and the extra power it has makes a huge difference!
