You can go online and find the BEST IN YOUR AREA and register with them "as many and who you wish" and some are free and some are not... Your local vet is the best place and chance of getting your pet back though in most cases!

Q: what size would i use for puppies that will grow to 40 to 50 lbs?

There is only one size. All micro chips are the same size. Watch a video on YouTube before doing it and you will be fine. Also it recommends some paid registries, I looked up free registry and it worked fine.

Q: What guage needle do they have?

I don’t know the number but larger than an 18. It has to pass the chip, about the size of a large grain of rice. That said, easy to inject but make sure someone restrains the animal well.
