Potent! Excellent quality hing
This stuff is great! It stinks, but it's supposed to. It seems very fresh and full of flavor. I can no longer have onions or garlic and learned that hing is a substitute for those flavors. It's not exactly the same, but it offers a savory and somewhat pungent hint of garlic and onion that helps add depth to my recipes. You only need a PINCH of this stuff so don't shake it in. There is a learning curve. But it works great once you get the hang of it. I'm very happy with the quality.

The only hing I’ve ever loved
Hung is one of those divisive foods - you either love it or hate it. I’ve hated all the other brands I’ve tried, but the advertising on this product convinced me to try it. They are accurate, as I love this product. It definitely has a strong odor, but it adds such a complex flavor to my cooking that I reach for it often. It is definitely high quality stuff, but I wish it weren’t so expensive or was sold in larger sizes. But you definitely don’t want to dump a whole lot of this into any dish, so it does take a bit to use up the tiny little jar. Maybe there’s a freshness limit to selling it in larger quantities? I don’t know, but I do use this in my Indian dishes all the time now.

Very Pungent, IBS/FODMAP Friendly
A little goes a long way, and I mean a long way. We’re talking granules. It’s going to last me forever and for that, five stars. I use it to substitute seasoning for onion/garlic for my low FODMAP husband. This way we can enjoy the savory flavor it imparts without the side effects having IBS.

Great garlic and/or onion replacement
This is perfect for someone with sensitivities to garlic or onion or histamine intolerance. You need very little. Only a pinch. It is very strong! Make sure you close the jar after using due to the pungent smell. I’m so glad I found this stuff since I can no longer cook with garlic or onions.

Aroma doesnt stay long
It turned bland within 2-3 weeks of opening the bottle. Placed in a dark cool location. All hings come with either wheat flour or rice flour at least 50% mixed. This is the purest. I bought two bottles. One lasted longer with the pungent aroma when mixed directly in oil or clarified butter to bring out the aroma. The other bottle remained fresh smelling for 1-2 weeks. No other choice l can find. Good thought but quality is varying. I would still highly recommend. Gluten free.

This is an extremely small jar!!!!! Regardless of potency
Be aware!!!! This is a 20g jar!!! I thought I was buying an 8 oz jar!! 20g is less than an ounce!! That means that you are paying over 13 dollars, maybe 14 or 15 per ounce! I wanted to ask for a return or refund but it seemed like a hassle since I waited so long to get this. I figured I would just cut my losses and say whatever. I think I may mix it with fenugreek to stretch it longer, but still, most mixes are 40% hing / 60% fenugreek so even that at most would get me 2-3 ounces. All of that aside, the taste is sublime. My mistake for not realizing the size of jar, I guess I assumed for the price it had to be more. Better off going to Starwest Botanicals website and getting a pound (16oz) of their organic hing/fenugreek mix. It runs you like 30-35 but still, it'll last you a while. Theyre on and off of amazon so just do their website directly. Again not really the hing salesmans fault, I'm just kicking myself for buying this unconsciously.

Exotic and slight bitter aftertaste.
An Indian friend of mine suggested trying this, not this brand, but I wanted one without the wheat or rice. that might have something to do with the aftertaste, I'm not sure. I have nothing to compare it with. It's easy to use and smells good. The taste is nothing to write home about. I'll probably use up the small bottle and not buy it again.
