By Far The Best Motion Sensor I Have For My Home Automation System
My home is full of the little Fibaro FGMS-001 battery powered motion sensors integrated into my Vera home automation system that I use to control lights and as security sensors. But I was having a real problem getting any battery powered ones to meet the need in my garage.Even with multiple sensors, I couldn't get reliable motion detection in the 2-car garage when my truck was in it. So I bought one of these and installed it on the ceiling. The dual-technology (IR, sound) works perfectly whether my truck is in the garage or not.I liked this model because it has a built-in relay that I could connect to the dry-contact terminals on an Ecolink Door/Window Sensor Z-wave Plus Rare Earth Magnets Door & Window Sensor, White & Brown (DWZWAVE2.5-ECO) so I could integrate it via Z-wave with my Vera controller.A drawback of course is that this unit requires external power versus battery powered sensors. This wasn't a problem for my garage since I already have an outlet on the ceiling for my garage door opener. I use this "wall wart" to power the motion detector: 24 Volt C-Wire Power Adapter/Transformer for Ecobee Nest Honeywell Smart Wifi Thermostat and Ring Doorbell by Fyve Global | 25 ft Cable .I used a Legrand round fixture box Legrand - Wiremold NMW4 Nonmetallic Raceway Circular Fixture Box that I picked up at "Big Orange" to attach it to the drywall on the ceiling. It comes with two different lens covers to alter the detection pattern for different height ceilings. I found that the one that comes already-installed works right on my 10-foot garage ceiling.Maybe one day I'll get motivated to go up into the crawlspace and do some wiring to install more of these around my house!
