Definitely an upgrade from the Dymo 4XL!
We print a lot of postage on 4x6 labels, and we've been using the DYMO LabelWriter 4XL hooked up to a USB print server for the last few years.Although the combination worked OK, there were some issues:1) The Dymo printers tend to fall apart after just a few months of use. We typically go through at least 2/year, and always had to keep a spare on hand.2) The requirement of having an additional print server involved increased the complexity and did cause occasional issues. When our last Dymo printer broke down, I was going to just grab another one until I came across this. We've used Zebra label printers, and have always had great luck with them, so I went ahead and picked this up instead. So far, this printer has been an excellent choice!1) It's definitely better made. It was obvious right when I pulled it out of the box that this printer is made to last. We've only been using it for a few weeks; but, I'll post if we do encounter any reliability issues.2) The setup with the embedded print server was extremely simple. It only took a few minutes and we were up and running with this printer.3) It uses the same printer paper as the Dymo 4XL - or you can also get paper without the alignment holes. This works just fine either way.4) The print speed & quality are both good. In that regard, it's just about the same as the Dymo 4XL.At this point, I can't really think of anything bad to say about it.Please remember that there are 2 versions of this printer - and the less expensive model does NOT include the Ethernet print server. If you don't need that, then great; but, if you do, this is the model you want.I would highly recommend getting this printer if you're printing medium or high volumes of labels. If you only print occasionally, you'll probably be just as happy with the Dymo (unless you also want the print server functionality).

Nice little printer
This was a work purchase to replace an Intermec printer that cost 4x as much. Right out of the box, the printer was simple to setup. Once it was on the network, CUPS detected the printer in seconds. (We're using Centos Linux). Just plug the network cable in and the power cord. Presto. It was also nice that there was so little additional setup required. There is no print ribbon as the printer is thermal. The printer speed is just fine when producing labels. We've been able to generate part labels with plenty of speed to spare. I also like that the printer appears to have some smarts figuring out where the starting point of the label is. We have yet to have an issue with feeding. The quality of the printer is also solid. We've taken the print down to a 7pt font and you can still read the labels. Granted you have to squint to read them but its still not bad. The bar codes that we've printed have all been legible with the software that we're using and we have not had issues scanning. Overall, we're very pleased to have a printer like this with the price tag of only $400.

Perfect printer for home or small office
Very nice printer. Does the job right. One thing to understand about direct thermal printers is that quality of the print depends on the software/application used. When we were using stamps.com and we are all on macs and had to use their online version of the app, the quality is not that good. I guess they simply print labels as rasterized images therefore the label comes out sometimes even barely readable. Then we switched to Endicia.com and those guys seem to know what they are doing. I believe the label is sent to printer as a vector file with a settings that generates a very sharp clean label. so if you got one of these and you see the quality is not what you were expecting - the solution is to switch the software you are using or adjust the settings. That's all.

The BEST thing about the GK420d was pitching my miserable DYMO ...
The BEST thing about the GK420d was pitching my miserable DYMO 4XL in the trash. Flawless for weeks, now. Keep meaning to change the font, but I NEVER have to mess with this printer (unlike the DYNO which needed reset or complete reinstall every 4-14 days, for NO apparent reason!)... so I may never get around to changing the font. I strongly prefer an ugly font over a "can't find printer" message!

That was an awesome choice. Not only does it make the mac ...
Making it work from a mac needed some work -- after tinkering and almost getting it, I gave up and bought a program called Thermal Utility Zebra. That was an awesome choice. Not only does it make the mac work, but it also lets me set up print handlers for all the shipping things I do (UPS, Fedex, Etsy, etc) to extract the label portion of whatever label they produce, and print it perfectly with one click.

Not Mac Compatible
Had to call customer service to get a walk through to install. Even then I couldn't get this to work properly with my Mac and Shipping Easy workflow. It is finally printing but at low resolution.

Snapply, clear labels
Wonderful printer. Used to print shipping labels. MUCH easier to set up than a USB Zebra LP2844 under Windows 10. No need for Bartender or Seagull drivers.

You can find better products for 1/4 of the price.
I don't think the tech team has worked on this in the last 10 years. Outdated.

Works well
