0.0050'' (0.1270 mm) Diameter 99.95% Tungsten Fine Wire, 25 feet, Cleaned and straightened

I got this wire to use as an alternative to the electric match designs that use a single strand of tungsten wire in a plastic clamp. I never measured the diameter of those wires, but this wire would work if it were thicker. My tests showed that (8) strands, i.e. 0.04", was a better effective diameter for this application than a single strand of 0.005" was. The thinner wire burned through too quickly creating an open before fuses could be reliably ignited. The 0.04" diameter wire, when available, was beyond a competitive price range in comparison to existing off-the-shelf tungsten filament electric matches. For the listings shown, the conventional electric match with the plastic clamp actually became more affordable than making my own with .04" wire.

We make microsurgical tools from tungsten wire and with this product we do not have to burn off the outer coating, the wire is precleaned, saving a lot of time and energy. Very happy lab workers.
