Useful Tool, Especially in Open Water
This compass is great. It's very high quality. It attached easily to the front of my kayak and was very easy to read.I took it out for a 7 mile paddle on Idaho's Lake Pend Oreille and it immediately came in handy. I wanted to explore an island about half way across the lake. I made a mental note that it was due East of where I left, using the compass. Later on, after circling the island I was able to point my kayak due West and paddle efficiently back to the dock. Seeing my direction in real-time allowed me to keep the kayak going in the right direction without straying off course too much.I'm really happy with my purchase.

Great way to stay on course...
I've had smaller, less competent compasses on my kayaks but when I recently bought a Necky Chatham 17 I wanted to fill the space allocated for a compass with a good, reliable brand. I opted for the Brunton 58 and am very pleased that I did.The unit has a soft bottom that helps it stay in place even when wet. The four bungee-type cords secure the compass to the boat's rigging and enable the user to see it perfectly while paddling. The coordinates are easy to read in almost any light conditions. It is made well and seems to be sturdy enough to handle all that most kayakers will ever throw at it.

Have used this attached to my deck bag on a 9 day trip and on a 3 day trip. Once we had heavy fog and I liked being able to kayak a line by using the compass. Good safety feature.

Worked good for one year
Purchased August 25, 2016. Floating compass part became disconnected after one year of light use. Unit was mounted on rubber cover of kayak. Manufacture claims lifetime warranty, but no information as how to submit claim.

Works well at a good-enough variety of angles.
I got this compass to compliment the variometer I use when I fly my paraglider. The elastic straps are a little short to reach around my leg comfortably, so I tied a loop of strong cord to extend them a little. The compass is easy to read, and will work at a variety of angles, including the one my knee rests at in my paragliding harness. It was excellent piece of mind when I had to navigate through thick clouds in the tropics on a recent trip.

I like it
Good weight, good size, easy to read. This summer will let me know if I made the right decision but right now it looks like the perfect tool for foggy lakes on overnight trips.

Ok Compass
An OK compass. Concerned with its durability. Disappointed the numbers on the dial are not complete leaving one to guess/estimate heading
