As good as Faber-castell but no where near as expensive!
Just as good as Faber-castell but way cheaper to buy! Only complaint is you can't buy a single replacement pencil of just 1 color.First off from my experience those people who stated to me that they were scratchy were far off. They may have gotten sets that were manufacturered from a older process or maybe they changed their formula since they got their sets but the set I have is a dream to draw with. Colors are vibrant and smooth to use. I can get solid tones easily with just a bit of pressure and if you want to blend it and eliminate any of the white page to be seen just a touch of gamsol will make that possible with no layering needed. As for the reports of people saying they could not see any difference between colors that is not the fault of the pencils either. The ZENACOLOR pencils, I actually find are very awesome with the color selection they provide in the 160 color selection. I have trained for many years in color and actually have Masters Degree in Illustration, I Minored in Photography, I also have a License in Cosmetology. I also, was a Makeup Artist for many years for Photographers and Movies. I studied color for decades. I use something most people don't know about and don't have; it's called the Munsell Color System, Pantone actually base their color system off of it. Most people have at least heard of Pantone. If you want to study anything about Munsell, here is the link to the text book for serious people https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007E9JDSA/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_F1AvEbKYTAQT3Anyway... Back to my point. The colors in Zenacolor have slight variants in hues that someone without a trained eye might not notice, or if you are not in proper lighting you might not be able to see. If you have proper lighting and still cannot see the differences you might need to familiarize yourself with the values, hues, and families in terms in colors a bit more; because these pencils really are filled with them. The shades are so slightly different but it is so useful to have them I can't even describe how valuable it is. From the 36 types of green to the 20 blues . It's just great. The cooler or warmer tones in each color are great. The things that will confuse people are common problems I experience with even prismacolor pencils. The names and numbers of the pencils. They are numbered from 1-160. My explanation for the numbers is simple. They are sold in different amounts. So when you buy a smaller pack you get more basic colors and so they aren't really numbered in an order that goes from lightest red to darkest red then to the next color that would blend to like on a color wheel kind of thing. So what I ended up doing was sorting it out for myself that was in the end. I will include my sorting both numbers and photos at the end, for those of you who would appreciate that. As for the names of the pencils... Well there's no explanation for those. For instance, there is one pencil that is called Dark Slate Gray #022 that you would expect to be a dark neutral gray, but it draws closer to a blue jean blue; also the barrel of the pencil is a dark hunter green. Which brings me to the one big problem and the first reason why I made a Swatch chart (the second reason was to order them) so the paint color on the outside of the pencils does NOT match the color of the pencils drawing color. All that being said NONE of those reason are enough for me to not use these pencils. As far as the box goes it's a cardboard box with a magnetic closure. If you don't want to spend the money to get a pencil case that's on you, but with the thin plastic trays the pencils roll around and I personally hate dealing with trays and the chance of a box opening so I got a case for them. All around using the pencils just while swatching, I found them nice to work with, because they are nice in the hand, they draw forever, and you don't need to sharpen often, they just cover so much paper and keep going. They are smooth on paper, blend well with gamsol (I don't use white to blend so I didn't bother to try I prefer to use a different pencil shade).Long story short, for prime customers $34.97 Zenacolor 160 colored pencils are a decent buy for a oil based colored pencil.I got them to have them for something that is cheaper than Faber-Castell. I needed something that didn't blend out and be so soft when sharpened like Prismacolors do. I need something that is more stiff on the tip and dry and can give color for fine lines in portraiture. Please give them a try for yourself and let me know how they are for you!

A pretty good set - with a few caveats.
I got these a few months ago. Yes, there ARE some cons. Like what was said in the reviews, there are mismatched colors and labels. Some examples: violet = blue, scarlet = orange, dark slate gray = green, six different names for the same (or at least similar shade) of red. But they work like a charm, and color great. I made my own swatch chart, and arranged the colors by family for easier use in colors, and disregarded the name when picking the colors. The ones I got are better quality than what some people say these are (maybe they got a bum box.) The only major con is that I can't order individual colors - however every other thing about these are great. A pack of this many Prismacolor markers is easily TEN times as expensive, and these seem to last longer and work better (at least for me) than Prismacolor. So in conclusion, it's a good value - like I said, just ignore the color names and choose these by their actual color when you draw.

Good value for a broad range of colors.
Very good value for a broad range of colors. The DIY color chart is a nice touch, and completing it ensures familiarity with the set - arguably necessary since some names are entirely different from the usual color associated with that name. ("Chrome yellow" for example, and various others) However while the names are sometimes atypical, the actual range of colors is quite comprehensive. Under my natural spectrum Ottlight I see no duplicate colors, just subtle distinctions. The box and inner trays kept the pencils well protected and organized. I prefer a softer pencil to blend, but these harder ones hold a point well and seem likely to be durable and long lasting. All in all, a good value on a nice set for casual use.

THE BEST colored pencils EVER!
I got into adult coloring a few years ago while recuperating from a hip injury, and tried a good many different kinds of colored pencils since that time. Because it's just a general relaxing hobby there's no need for me to buy the most expensive thing out there, and I was looking for a good sturdy pencil that would sharpen and color without all the breakage I was getting from some of the others. I first bought the Zenacolor 72 pencil set and was so thrilled with how awesome they were in all I was looking for, I chose to order the larger set. The color is great-goes down smoothly and the main thing-NO BREAKAGE! I do sharpen a lot for intricate details, so it was important to have pencils that wouldn't constantly break in sharpening or get "loose lead" where the point goes flying the minute it hits the paper.(And it's usually always the colors I fancy the most!) I'd highly recommend these for anyone of any age. It's a wonderful product and when I need more, I'll definitely be ordering more of these!

Buntstifte in viele Farben
