I wanted to love this rod and reel...but just couldn't.
I've bought hundreds of times from Amazon over the years and this is the first time I've been dissatisfied enough with a product to write a review. This reel was terrible in every way. I could see that it wasn't a well made product when I pulled it out of the box, but other positive reviews online convinced me to give it a try. The anti-reverse lever was made out of cheap plastic and broke off the first time I took it out, before I even got a chance to use it. The drag adjustment knob slipped like it was stripped out when I tried to adjust the drag. I never could get it to work right and lost several trout because of it. The 7' rod was less bad. I normally like a trout rod to have a lot of flex at the tip, but this thing felt like casting with a wet noodle. The rod tip was just way too flexible, even for trout. Of course, it might have been fun if I'd actually been able to keep a fish on long enough with it to bring one in. I tried it for an hour and then swapped it out for my 5' Ugly Stick. Paired with a Pflueger Trion, I was able to cast at least as far as I could with the 7' rod, and I was able to land the 3 fish I hooked after I switched. Fortunately, Amazon is going to let me send it back, which I'm happily doing today. I've already replaced it with a Daiwa Spinmatic UL rod and Abu Garcia Cardinal C251 UL reel. A little bit more expensive, but a heck of a better setup.
