One of the Best Out There
This receiver by far is the best receiver that I've had and also the most expensive. You truly get what you pay for, however do keep in mind that not a whole lot changes from year to year with receivers, there are a few changes but buying last year's model (this model vs. the 2016 model) can save you a lot of money. I paid $1,300 when this was on sale around Black Friday 2016 while the 2016 version was consistently $2,200. The largest difference was the 11 channel amp compared to this 9 channel amp and DTS-X was pre-installed on the 2016 version. But that was not enough to justify paying nearly twice as much.I bought this receiver to upgrade from my Denon AVR-S900W which I was very please with as I never had any issues with it, Spotify streaming worked well and their app worked well with that model. All in all I've had great experiences with Denon both with the Denon AVR-S900W and with the Denon AVR E300 so I wanted to keep with this great brand. The debate with this larger budget was either Denon or Marantz and I made the right choice by staying with Denon (the Marantz equivalent to this receiver had several reviews denoting issues with streaming capabilities and their app among other things). This receiver provides exception power to large speakers such as Klipsch RF 7 II while offering 11.2 channel processing and 9.2 amplified output for Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. Dolby Atmos, DTS-X and DTS Neural X provide an incredible experience like no other. Atmos comes pre-installed and DTS-X is easy to install through an update (DTS Neural X is apart of the DTS X package). DTS Neural X is an incredible addition to DTS X, offering DTS X sound for DTS 7.1 Master audio, allowing you to upscale to DTS X. DTS Neural X allows you to upscale any nearly any content to to DTS X but there is only so much that you can do with lesser formats. DTS Neural X works great on DTS 7.1 Master audio as that is the next highest format, bringing the audio to near perfect DTS X, which is perfect for upscaling movies. However with movies only recorded in 5.1 DTS Master audio, there is only so much that can be done as the audio track was only designed for 5.1, however it still provides an enhancement to the audio experience of the movie. The auto calibration and settings work great allowing you to have great flexibility in your 11.2 setup and allowing you to choose which 2 channels you would like to have a pre-amp output, this allowed me to have my front height speakers assigned to as pre outs for my 2nd receiver to amplify. The settings may take some time to get acquainted with such as manually configuring your speaker setup in the settings before calibration. Please note that the receiver will NOT automatically try each channel in the calibration, it will only calibrate based on the default settings so you need to manually tell the receiver which channels you plan to use and which 2 channels you want to assign as pre outs to another receiver/amplifier. Once done, the calibration should be a breeze. I opted for a configuration closest to Dolby Atmos which is what most tech articles, forums and reviews suggest since DTS X has no standard on speaker placement. Auro 3D currently has no content out but wants to assure consumers that there will be in the future but in the meantime expects consumers to purchase their software for $200, setup their speaker configuration to their setup requirements and to wait for their content to be released. That's a bad idea to jump on the band wagon this early for Auro 3D. My recommendation is to use the Dolby Atmos speaker configuration. I chose to have 4 in ceiling speakers and 2 front height speakers with the in ceiling speakers being amplified channels and the front height being pre-amp outs. This setup has worked very well for me with Dolby Atmos, DTS X and DTS Neural X.The one drawback in the ventilation and the amount of heat that this receiver produces. This receiver generates a lot of heat just by being powered on and not in use; once in use this receiver quickly generates a lot of heat. I currently have two small, quiet AV fans placed on top of my receiver to control the heat. I would not be able to use anywhere near the full power of this receiver without those fans. Try AC Infinity fans. I use their 51 CFM airflow fans, they're quite, well built and powerful.

DON’T BUY. DON’T BUY. DON’T BUY.
Digital board (HDMI) blown. UPDATE 2019, December: Nothing works now: No sound. Even the “speakers level test sound” doesn’t work. Totally dead. Garbage. I’ll never, ever, buy again anything from Denon (& Marantz). CAREFUL. DON’T BUY.

Very sweet sounding, very capable.
I just upgraded from a Denon AVC-2000, purchased in 1990 (and still working great, by the way) to this Denon AVRX6200W. I am using the amp to drive a mix of power amps (via the preamp outputs) and speakers, including low ohm speakers in the 4-6 ohm range. (Infinity IRS beta in fronts use external power amps, infinity kappa 9.1 on sides being driven direct, at 6 ohm). I also have some old small Bose in the rear, 8 ohm. No center, no sub woofer. I use the amp for both music, which includes lots of vinyl these days, and movies. I still use a DLP projection system for video, an older projector without hdmi, which accounts for the missing 5th star on my rating...I was hoping to use the component video output from the Denon to switch at least the component video signals coming in, but that component video output signal does not appear to work for me. I only get video out from HDMI. A short term issue since I plan to upgrade my 10 year old projector next year. The audio on this unit is smooth. Best word I have to describe it, more than warm, it is peaceful and effortless, and a much bigger change than I was anticipating. I suppose a lot has happened in 25 years, but I am taken aback at how much better it is musically, particularly for my vinyl collection. This amp is providing the preamp stage for my Techniques SL1200 turntable, and some bottom of the line power amps that drive the IRS betas. By comparison, I am stunned at how harsh my avc2000 phono preamp was, that was the dawn of the cd era, I guess they had other priorities back then. I always meant to get a proper phono preamp, but I never expected such a dramatic improvement was possible. I am also playing around with different surround processing for the left/right phono input signals. (defeating the whole pure analog argument for vinyl, but I don't care much for explaining why it sounds better, I just like it :) There are some very old 70s era mixes that do amazing instrument separation tricks through this Denon, sending what sound like distinct tracks to front/side/rear speakers. I got this thing so I could hear all the 5.1 remixes being done by people like Steve Wilson, did not expect to hear it from a stereo signal input. Will take me months to get around to completing the system updates planned, I have yet another pair of smaller infinities to fix up, lots left to learn on programming this thing. One humorous episode, I have a personal website I maintain with MP3 files of original music by myself and fellow musicians. I went to play one of these on my iPhone, and was surprised when my phone asked me if I wanted to send it to the Denon instead? I said yes, and heard the song playing in the next room on the big speakers...new fangled tech, did not see that one coming. Cheers, Jc.PS - Should mention, I purchased this 10/31/2016 for $1299 brand new, with free freight, Amazon store front was Hawthorne. I note that the price is now back up to $1799, so shopping around and shooting for good timing is probably worth mentioning. This is last year's model after all.
