Product Description MORE THAN MURDER: A friendly game of poker and dope-dealing ends in death, and only Mike Hammer can clear his best friend of murder and conspiracy charges. MURDER ME, MURDER YOU: When a gorgeous female courier carrying $2 million in cash is murdered and the money vanishes, hard-boiled private investigator Mike Hammer takes on the toughest case of his career. .com Well before the explosion of TV police procedurals in the '90s, there were notable cops doing serviceable gumshoeing in the pursuit of law and, well, order. One of the best was the Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer series in the '80s, starring Stacy Keach as the world-weary Hammer, chucking off hard-boiled bons mots as he got ever-more entangled in the seamy underbelly of murder and conspiracy. This double-feature set includes More Than Murder, with cool cameos by an assortment of '80s character actors including a pre-Designing Women Delta Burke; and Murder Me, Murder You, which features a lovely Michelle Phillips as Hammer's ex-flame and Tanya Roberts as the enticing Gal Friday Velda. If the writing and plotting seem a little clunky in hindsight, there's still no denying the appeal of Keach and the Mike Hammer character, who's every bit as jaded as Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe. Keach was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1984 for his tough-as-hardtack portrayal of Hammer, and revisiting these episodes is a reminder of both the great chops Keach possessed, and of the appeal of the tough-guy dick as seen through the jaundiced eye of Mickey Spillane. --A.T. A standup guy and a bombshel sidekick - Velda NOT the cop
Mike Hammer: More Than Murder / Murder Me, Murder You (Double Feature)Sold by: buyroxy$5.69No complaints or hassles with the this transaction.NO SPOILERSCinematography - since I no diddly-squat about film making by this I mean the quality of the picture and steadiness of the camera and was it soooo dark you couldn't tell what was going on or soooo bright it's headache inducing etc - you get the picture - no pun intended - Well it was fine - you can always see whats going on - no camera shake or such. and nice scenery of the city and such.Sound - again just from my perspective - an older person whose eyes and ears aren't what they used to be - yes they're still eyes and ears just not full of the vitality of youth. So the sound was fine - even I could hear everything. None of this modern mumbling bollocks.Story. Here's the real deal. Not as gritty as Donald Westlake/Richard Starke (a forgotten hero of mine) Where only someone as Tungsten boiled as Lee Marvin could pull of Parker. And not as soft Hetty Wainthrop Investigates. Well placed in the middle. Tough enough to be believable but no so hard you have to vomit and not as complex as Mr. Stouts Nero Wolf.If Mr Keach is your bag your in for a treat. and the accompanying eye candy is plentiful. No nudity, gratuitous or otherwise. Hammer does get his shirt off fleetingly but it's not for titillation. The story lines hold up. there are some surprises along the way but by and large it's familiar territory.... which is nice. Is it a poor mans Marlow?.... maybe I prefer to think they are somehow different facets of the same diamond.ACID TEST: would I buy again/recommend? YES

Stacy Keach was born to play Hammer
Listen, Mickey Spillane is not definitely not Shakespeare. But if you take it at that level, it's a great ride. Plus nobody has as much gusto as Stacy Keach. Not to mention all the babes.

Fun Double Feature
Fun double feature. Shortly before they green lit the original Keach: Mike Hammer Series, CBS ran several made for TV movies that ran over the summertime before the fall season. These both are fun stories with the typical Keach approach to Mike Hammer with the same jazz music used in the series. Tanya Roberts plays his asst. Velda. It has several cast members from the series Don Stroud as Chambers and Kent Williams as ADA Barrington. They had some good guest stars such as Delta Burke and Michelle Phillips. Fun watch. This is a made for TV movie, but it does have solid video and audio quality. Show seems dated but is fun in a throwback way. Each movie is around 1:40 in run time.

What happened?
Judging by the lack of "spoiler alerts" on these reviews, viewers of this film were just as lost as I was regarding the actual plot. Lots of gals wandering through in low-cut outfits making rather sleazy advances on the somehow irresistable Mike Hammer, though. I think it had something to do with cocaine dealing, some federal witnesses and bribery. So better put a spoiler alert on this so anyone who cares can at least get a hint of what went on!

Border line camp. Stacy Keach's best TV role
Love it or leave it. Mike Hammer is a hard boiled ultra macho character. The nearly indestructible private eye is a product of 40's style writing set in a contemporary New York City. This is as politically incorrect as it can get. Hammer is a shameless chauvinist, but he is warm hearted about it. He does like women, in his Ally Cat sort of way. Pure escapism.

Murder, deceit, and retribution.
Ayn Rand mentions Mickey Spillane as having great literary potential, but though Mr. Spillane delves into the innermost being of Mike Hammer, Mr. Spillane had no interest in literary greatness. His admitted interest? Earning sufficient for a 'hang loose' good life. Mr. Spillane understands man's (and woman's) wants. Stacy Keach understands Mike Hammer, the Private Investigator often caught up in murder, mayhem and mercenary thought. Spillane, Hammer, and Keach present life as it is; filled with givers and takers. S. H. and K. aim to make takers pay.If you want to more fully understand Mike Hammer, read Spillane's novels. If you want visual as well as mental entertainment, 'More Than Murder' and 'Murder Me, Murder You' will satisfy and allow something left-over for you to ponder. Spillane, Hammer, and Keach. A perfect trio.
