These sticks work great with the right fire building technique
These Fatwood sticks worked phenomenally and revolutionized how I build fires. I went through a frustrating episode of trying the "teepee" method over and over again, using chemical-soaked fire starting bricks, newspaper, twigs, whatever was available. About the same time I turned to Fatwood, I learned the key:To build a successful fire, the logs need to be stacked like a pyramid, not a teepee. See the attached picture for an example of what that looks like. Put down the two base logs, stick a Fatwood stick or two between them, light the Fatwoods, and then put the 3rd log on top. It will take longer to start blazing than your typical fire, but it's a guaranteed success. I've never seen a fire built that way NOT light.I was always taught growing up that you needed to provide adequate oxygen flow. What's more important is trapping the heat, although that runs contrary to the oxygen provision concept. But fires tend to suffer more from losing heat than having inadequate oxygen. Crazy, right? Also, this concept is very scalable. Throw on more logs, and as long as they're still in that pyramid setup, they'll light up fine. Get these Fatwood sticks and the days of searching for tinder, or using newspapers, or blowing on a fire hoping it'll start, are over.

no chemicals, no mess, easy fire starter
I was told by a friend about this Fatwood, and that they were better then buying the little bricks that you have to pull apart and get gunk all over your hands. He was so right, it is just as easy to start a fire in the fire place with these, and I do not have the mess, or the smell to deal with. The price of this box of fatwood fire starters is a better deal as there are more sticks in this box then there are bricks of the other products. I also love the fact that I am not getting a bunch of chemicals all over my hands, so after handling I do not have to be careful in what I do until I can scrub my hands clean.

Fatwood is the best!
Although I was a Girl Scout (back in the day that Girl Scouts actually camped and built fires!) and now a Cub Scout Den Leader, fatwood makes making fires a breeze. Obviously you still have to build a good fire (I like teepee style to begin) but fatwood helps it take over, so you're not on your knees trying to get a fire started forever and a day, because sometimes you just want to get it started and sit and stare. You can find fatwood at your local stores (such as Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, etc...) but they are almost always sold out, so you may want to opt to just ordering from Amazon and having it at your door step.

Great fire starter when they're fresh.... Don't let 'em dry out.
These work great for starting fires. Only takes 1 or 2 to start a nice big hardwood fire in my fireplace.Only word of caution would be to put them in a sealed container as they seemed to "dry out" after a few months of sitting in the box. Once they dried out they were much harder to light and would basically self extinguish.

Great Fire Starter
I must say i wasn't expecting this product to be that great when I bought it but boy was i wrong. I purchased a new fire pit and was having some problems starting my fires and keeping them lit. I purchased these to try and I love them! One or two of these sticks on the fire next to some paper and you have a roaring fire in no time. They are covered with some sort of rosin which makes for a quick clean burn. You get about 2-3 dozen sticks in the small box which can last you anywhre form 1-2 months depending on how often you have a fire. A deffinent must have for anybody having backyard fires!

It works like it says
What I got in the mail was identical to what was pictured, and the wood inside of my package is in fact fat wood.A simple way to test is to take a peel off the side maybe the length of a tooth pick, and 3-4 times as thick. You're basically cutting off a small sliver with a knife. Then hold it away from you and light it on fire, it should crackle, and burn like a match but for a longer period of time. The wood I received was "fat" and burned as expected. I would buy again.

Work well but...
I think they may be too sooty for a fireplace chimney. They put off quite a bit of thick, black smoke.
