Good value, reasonable quality.
Easy to install. Prints well. Good quality for this level of printer. Compact and needs little space. Excellent for home office. Cartridges only last for 200 pages. Need to bear this in mind if you use regularly.

Good multi use printer, easy to use and set up
Good reliable printer so far, very quick. A bit noisy and likes to clean itself at all hours, but that's not an issue for me. The colour printing on inkjet paper is excellent. Easy top connect and control over wireless. Large ink cartridges are available as well, minimising changes. Works on Apple AirPrint too!

Versatile and responsive
I bought this after I changed to a Mac laptop and my Epson printer just would not scan with it. After months of trying to solve this, I bought this Brother. Like the Epson, it would not connect via AirPrint or Bluetooth - must be my wifi - but works beautifully with a printer cable. Bit of a faff to set up online, but there are both paper (hurrah!) and online instructions, and it is all fairly intuitive. A little thing I really like is you don’t have to switch it on before printing. As you go to print on your computer, so it switches on. It is not especially noisy for me, although others have commented on this. It drops a star because printing on two sides is a little awkward; and it has jammed a couple of times - if it is in a tight space it’s awkward to pull it out and fix things from the back. On the whole I am very pleased With it.

Great Value Little Printer
Overall I've found this to be a very good printer for the money. I previously had a Brother A3 MFC printer too for working from home which is very decent and economical on inks. I'll list what I believe are the good and bad points as follows:Good PointsEasy to set up - can use a USB cable or wireless and both are straightforward without issueInstructions that come with it are clear and concise (which can be an issue with some printers)Control panel is clear and easy to use, simple to do maintenance for exampleEasy to find how much ink you have left or pages left in the control panel which is a nice featureReasonably fast printing in both colour and black and white and quality is decentScanner is easy to use and gives decent qualityInks easy to change and not as expensive as some, they also seem to last much longer than a HP printerI like the look of the black printer, nice and neat but that is subjective of courseBad PointsThe printer is very noisy when in use and rattles and sounds like its falling apartFeels a bit cheap and some parts like paper tray are flimsy but nothing has broken just yetOccasionally jams and a bit fiddly to get paper out the back

The worst printer I've ever owned out of about 10.
This thing has caused me more grief than my wife. I'm not a heavy printer user but would like to print something each month at least. The ink seems to vanish or dry up which makes me think Brother are relying more on a subscription model for ink rather than profiting on the machine itself. The actual print out was ok, nothing special. However, you can't rely on it as when I came to print, more often than not I got the printer out of ink message on either the black or one of the CMY cartridges despite never using any of either really. The final nail for me was when I sought to print - was given the out of ink message - then reached for a pre-prepared Magenta cartridge (yes, I'd gotten to that point) only for the machine not to recognise the newly inserted cartridge (despite all the clicks). I'm not stupid or naive - I know how to change an ink cartridge... Anyway, I did something I've never done before in my life. I booted it. I don't know why or what I expected. Needless to say it didn't respond. Now, after 18 months or so of buying ink and swearing at it, I'm back on Amazon looking for an alternative. I've never had a brother before and will not be entertaining them again in my lifetime.

What a brilliant well-designed AIO printer!
Excellent instructions are supplied and it is just so easy to set up.To make life even easier, the touchscreen can be angled upwards slightly. Just a small thing, but it shows that considerable thought has gone into the design.Fast and quiet. Does double-sided A4.Works very well in Linux (I was using Linux Mint):For Linux, visit Brother support and download the single Driver Install Tool which includes all the necessary drivers.linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.4-1.gz goes to Desktop (or Downloads or tmp).Open with Archive Manager or similar.Extract > Desktop > Extract.cd Desktopsudo subash linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.4-1 DCP-J1140DWThe driver installation will start. Follow the installation screen directions. When you see the message "Will you specify the DeviceURI ?"For USB Users: Choose N (No)For Network Users: Choose Y (Yes) and DeviceURI number. The install process may take some time. Please wait until it is complete.

Replaced a very older Brother printer with this one. Excellent
Replaced a very older Brother printer with this one.The printer has worked for 10 years with not bother, but now the LED screen does not repond to touch, so I bought a new Brother. This one was very simple and quick to start up, add cartridges (which are full size unlike HP and canon starter ones) and connected to the wifi instantly.I was able to print as soon as I installed program on my three computers. This also prints right off from iPhone and the iPad.An app does let you scan direct to the IPad, where it is most useful.Ink is a reasonable price and 3rd party inks work too, unlike HP.I have installed HP printers for Age UK and I would NOT recommend them at all, so difficult to install, none of the users could do it and I struggled too. Epson, are pretty good though. The build quality on this printer is more slight than my older printer, ie thinner plastic, the paper receiver is weaker, I hope this lasts as long!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from a printer installer expert of AGE UK
