The price and functionality. It works on both ends.
I was happy when I got it. I'm not sure on tge bad reviews. I liked the zoom was a littke Pixelated . I was able to see a mouse run across my yard at 300 ft. I was able to make out deer in my woods at least 200 yards. I think for tge price it is awesome. I can't afford the high end ones . I woukd like to but just to much . I am trying to find out if it can be mounted on a rifle just for target accusations and it won't break if I shoot with it on my rifle. Other than that this is a great product and it will help with people illegally hunting on my property . I will be able to hide and wait for tgem. I hope this helped.

Good entry-level product
Comes with minimal instructions, but is fairly easy to use. The screen itself is what you view directly, without any magnification. The screen can be electronically zoomed, but detail is lost fast as the resolution is 320. If you are looking for a serious rifle-mounted hunting scope, this is not for you; no optical magnification and no reticle. My first use of thermal imaging. It is useful as a detection device - finding animals or humans in the dark out to maybe 200 yards depending upon size. Refresh rate is low and that will limit use if you are trying to follow something running. Something walking slowly (like a meandering moose) is easily tracked. The negative reviews seem to be from people expecting something great for a bargain price. Higher end systems run into the $10,000+ category, so what do you expect? I was happy with the purchase considering the price.

Advantages and disadvantages....for the price I wasn’t overly impressed.
I liked all the different settings that it had. Allowed me to zero in on and double check objects of interest. The screen was also digital too! Not sure why but my screen did not show up as a circle like the pic. Mine is a rectangle/square. So it is smaller than I thought it would be. However I really enjoy how easy it is to watch without straining to shut one eye the whole time. I thought it was pretty cool that I could see my footprints, no shoes, for about a minute in the summer. You could also see animal tracks and where they just laid in their thermal mode. Bad part is, if anything small, leaves or small branches, was in the way it would greatly affect your ability to see. I found that everything gives off some kind of heat so it can be confusing and I def need practice to learn to tell everything apart. For the price I paid, usually buy cheap, I was kind of disappointed with how close objects had to be to see them well. I would prob be dead if someone was to sneak up on me. But I am new to this stuff. Might just need practice?

works well when it works
Worked well most of the time. Very simple to use. Beacon mode is great. I could easily identify a person and deer at 200 yards, a small 20lb dog was more of blob at that distance. Problem was, occasionally the screen would get blurry and appear to have two different images misaligned and overlapping each other. This would resolve if i turned it off and back on, but eventually it would happen again. Both the image and the text on the top of the screen would become distorted. The images I have included demonstrate my foot, and what a normal image looks like, and when it has having problems.I contacted Leupold customer service and was told they were not familiar with this problem. Friendly but not very helpful. They offered a free shipping label to take a look at it. Instead, I opted to exchange this with amazon which was very easy and convenient, although sure enough the replacement did the exact same thing. For the $700 price tag I can't overlook this problem anymore and will return it. It makes me concerned of the quality of build and how long it will last after the 2 year warranty. I really wanted to like the LTO tracker 2 HD, but seems I will need to spend a bit more money with a competitor to get something more reliable.

Great for the money
After reading about the 1st gen of these scopes I didn't have much hope but... I really have the need for a night vision optic where I live as we have a lot of woods around us and some "interesting" neighbors...This thing defied my expectations. No you can't make out fine details, and after 100 yards it gets tricky to start to figure out what you're looking at. It does not make me more handsome, or virile either but those details aside, it's a great value for the money, especially... if you find it on sale. I can easily spot deer bedded down or walking, coyotes, turkey and the occasional two leg mammal out to 100 yards. I have one 300 yard shot to look at and you really have to tweak it to get it to "see" that far out but you can get dots of warmth where you know the deer or whatnot might be. It brings a lot of peace of mind when you're walking around on a moonless night and seeing everything before you're close enough to be considered a threat.

It actullay works as advertized
I have a night vision scope I use for hunting hogs and it works well up to about 150 yards. I purchased the hand held thermal monocular for scanning and identifying critters outside the range of the night vision scope. The first night I used the device, I was able to see rabbits playing at 200 yards, two deer eating in a soybean field 315 yards, and I was able to see hogs at 150 yards (5 yards inside the woods before they came out into the open field). Without this device, I would not have known the hogs were there and would have moved to another location. It is somewhat pricy, but good equipment is not cheap. This is a good product and you do not need a degree from MIT to use it.
