Good for kids. NOT LIKE SHOW
This is a very quick read and would put it at grade 5 for reading ability. Just know it is nothing like the Netflix series. My students liked the series (grade 7)

Love these books!!
Love these books so much but the box was ripped and the corners were crushed when I got it and I didn’t buy the used version. The books didn’t have any damage to them so its still a five star for me

Great read!
I absolutely loved this series. I saw the show first and fell in love with it, so when I found out that there were books I had to read them. But it is nothing like the show! Which I kinda like because it is like a parallel universe.

Recognition of Mental Illness in Teens
When purchasing these books I was a little nervous at first for what to expect when reading them. I began this series by watching the television show which I enjoyed but it wasn’t up to my expectations. What I loved about this book was getting to learn the characters better on a deeper level. A show can only tell you so much, these books allowed for me to relate to these characters on a whole entirely different level. The 100 series explores a bunch of teens being sent to a post apocalyptic world where they must learn to survive in their own. How are they expected to be sent off by themselves and just “learn” how to survive? It is amazing to watch the characters traverse this unknown territory and find myself in a similar situation now. Learning how to live without my parents earn my own money, manage it, applying for college. It’s all so terrifying to learn on my own but I relate with these characters as they traverse this new terrain also. They are thrown into this world that they must figure out how to survive in. This text I feel focuses on two things primarily. Description of the world and the setting they are in. The other would be the thoughts of the 100 teens. What this world feels like to them and how it is affected them. This is primarily in Clarke’s mind where although it isn’t directly addressed. She begins to suffer with mental illness. Unaware of if every decision she makes will hurt her family or help them. She is lost and she blames herself for what happens to all those around her. It can be looked at like Clarke is the villain but in reality as you watch her more and understand her character better you create a bond with her. These books explore a post nuclear war world and display how young teens are affected by this and what effects it can have on their mental illness. It allowed me to engage with this characters through the author’s description. Also connecting current world ideas and struggle to the wonderful novel.
