Garmin Astro Retractable Tether

I use this for my Garmin Astro and also for my Garmin Rino 655t. It is nice it comes with more than one lanyard. This is a fairly simple product, but it does the job nicely! The "snap" mechanism that goes into main unit is solid and gives a positive "click" sound. May sound minor, but knowing that a $500+ dollar device is hanging off of it and it would be a PITA to walk back through a field when pheasant hunting or similar to find unit, this gives me some piece of mind.

I have used this retractor on my day pack to retain my Garmin Oregon GPS unit. The retractor keeps my GPS unit up on my shoulder and out of the way. Yet, when I need it, it is easily grabbed, used and then simply released. I do MANY hikes with Boy Scouts and record the GPS tracks for future reference, hike reviews, high adventure training, etc. This keeps my numerous hikes on track and recorded without the risk of dropping my expensive GPS unit off a cliff or into a river, etc. I simply love this little retractor tether. I would only suggest that Garmin needs to deal with the length of the cord that attaches their GPS units to the retractor. That 'cord' piece is simply WAY TOO LONG. The length of that piece of cord allows the GPS to flop around roughly 4-5 inches below the retractor. I dumped that piece LONG ago and replaced it with a hand fabricated cable attachment.

I bought this product to clip onto my Garmin 755T as a safety. While hunting I constantly am looking at my gps to see where my party is at and always worried my gps is going to fall out of my jacket or something. This leash system works great because it offers great reach/extension and has good tension/recoil. Its exactly what I was looking for in a leash.Also it comes with two leash attachments which works great for exchanging battery packs.

I almost lost my Astro GPS unit while backpacking. Luckily I was able to backtrack and find the unit. As soon as I got home I purchased this and it has served me well. It is easy to use, has great tension on it, and now (hopefully) I will not lose my GPS! I also really like that you can unbuckle the tether at the GPS end, so if I need to do some handheld stuff, I don't need to hassle with the tension from the retractable piece.

Wish the feather that went to the FPS was shorter gives it to much so it swings a lil when walking.

I prefer this style to my around the neck type. Just put my gps in my pocket and pull the cord when I need an update. High quality.

Appears to be a good product with good lanyard...only curiosity is whether plastic is high impact and will survive any knocks...time will tell.
