Revell 04996 Sepecat Jaguar GR.1A Model Kit, 1:48 Scale, Multi-Color

I make about 3 models each winter when the weather is too bad to go out. This is one of the best I have made. I wanted to do it well as a tribute to a close friend killed whilst flying one and it stands proudly in my cabinet now and I think of him each time I see it.

After seeing the model photos on the box I was looking forward to assembling this kit. Unfortunately the tooling appears to be getting tired with several large patches of flash on the main sprues. The plastic is not very flexible and accentuates the poor fit of many of the main items such as wing, nose cone and cannon ports all of which need lots of filler and careful sanding to make a half decent model. Would not recommend this kit for anyone less than an experience modeller.

Ce modèle de chasseur bombardier destiné à l'attaque au sol principalement, est réservé au maquettistes confirmés. Il est recommandé de bien posséder toute la panoplie de modéliste (et de savoir s'en servir) avant d'entamer le montage de ce fauve. Etant à l'échelle 1:48, cette maquette reproduit fidèlement et avec moult détails la version GR.1 Britannique du SEPECAT Jaguar. Doté d'un armement conséquent, il est l'aboutissement du partenariat BAC/Dassault à la fin des années 70. De niveau 5 sur l'échelle Revell, cet avion n'est pas mettre entre les mains de petits modélistes en herbe.

At just $20 when I bought it, I thought this was a great find! Nope. This appears to be just a reboxing of the old Heller kit, which was the only 1/48 offering of this aircraft for the longest time. It was a decent kit back in the 90s when it came out, but has not stood the test of time well. The plastic is soft (think old Italeri kit plastic), the molds seem worn at the fit of almost all pieces is terrible and details are virtually non-existent from the empty cockpit to the open, ductless intakes. Detail, where it exists, is incredibly soft at best. This would be an ok buy @ $10-15 for a young model builder who really doesn't want anything other than an airplane-shaped piece of plastic, but this will discourage all but the most hard-core builders out there, especially considering Kitty Hawk offers a 1/48 Jagaur (actually TWO different versions) that are simply amazing. Yeah, they cost twice as much, but they are worth every penny.
