jumbo pencils
I use these for work, im a Tiler and use them to mark the tiles before cutting, or on other measuring jobs around the house and work. I've lost count how many workmates have asked me for 1 or where they can get some. Pencils last well and the marks wash off easy.

great introduction
You know when a product is good is when someone asks where you got it from or you are happy to do a repeat order. The Lakeland pencils are perfect for the little one to learn how to hold and use a pencil or to do the sudoku in the paper - the main problem is that they do seem to grow legs like every biro or pencil in this house. Sigh. Anyway - main thing is that they are excellent to use as a teaching tool for infants and therefore they are gold standard in this household (sorry - could never give 5 stars for pencils however...)

Excellent chunky pencils ... perfect for young children.
Derwent Lakeland have produced some great pencils for children over the years β¦ in fact I always purchased Lakeland easy grip pencils for my children when they were young and the chunky hexagonal body shape really helped them with their handwriting and drawings. These twelve graphite pencils are brilliant, they are specially designed for young children (although I quite like writing with them as well). These pencils have thick anti-roll hexagonal bodies which make the pencil extremely comfortable to hold and write with, whilst also helping a young child perfect a good grip to write with. The black graphite lead has a thick lead which is quite thick for normal writing (as an adult) but just the thing for a young child, it seems to enable them to write their letters clearer, my granddaughter who is just starting to form her letters (aged three) really enjoys using this pencil and her letters are considerably better formed when using it.All in all a great idea that has been executed well. I have no problem in recommending these jumbo pencils.

Good for people who have difficulty gripping thinner pencils
These chunky pencils are thicker than the usual size of pencil, both in terms of the lead and the hexagonal wooden casing. They are HB so suitable for most uses. Although thicker than most pencils, if you have a double barrel pencil sharpener, they fit the larger hole snugly. They are designed mainly for young people who are just starting to learn to write as the are easier to grip than standard pencils. Havng said that, I remember (just about) my early school days and we used ordinary pencils with no problem and I would think that the thinner ones would be easier for learning the βcorrectβ way of holding a pencil rather than holding in the fist. However for, say, nursery age children, they are excellent.Where I think that these pencils are also suitable is for elderly people who may have lost some feeling in the nerve endings of their fingers. These are much easier to hold in these circumstances.Oh, and I also keep one in my toolbox. Very handy.

Chunky hexagonal HP graphite pencils which are easy for children to grip from Derwent
Chunky hexagonal graphite pencils which are easy for children to grip. They are long lasting and robust - they don't easily break. They are HB pencils so 'medium' grading - neither too hard or soft, nor too light or dark. Perfect for most drawing.12 in a pack.Easy to recommend.

My children like them
My 4 year-old benefits from a chunky pencil, and these fit the bill very well. His older sisters also rather enjoy using them for some reason (despite being quite able to use a normal, thinner pencil). You will need a suitable sharpener, but once you have this, these pencils are great for young writers, being easy to hold and manipulate.
