Three Little Words: I Love It!
Well, this is a pleasant surprise! I purchased this CD of The Applejacks on the basis of hearing only one of their songs- 'Tell Me When'. I'm very glad I got this album though- there are some great songs on here, many of which have been neglected and forgotten about which could (or should) have been hits back in the 1960's.You might be asking, 'what makes this album special?' Well, this CD set features 26 great ORIGINAL tracks which I believe is their entire recordings from Decca Records. In addition, there are some fine sleeve notes with some cool pictures and some nice notes by the bass player Megan Davies. Before purchasing this CD, I was reading a review from Allmusic which said that their covers of the 1950's Rock 'n' Roll songs were 'dire'- let me say that I completely disagree with this; their covers aren't bad at all! Check out their poundin', stompin' version of Ray Charles' 'What'd I Say' if you don't believe me! Other delightful songs on this album are their other hits 'Like Dreamers Do' and 'Three Little Words (I Love You)', but also check out 'I'm Through' and 'Everybody's Gonna Fall Down'- these are more examples of how chart success clearly eluded The Applejacks.I can tell that this will be an album that I'll play over and over again, and I'll conclude by saying that whether you're a fan of The Applejacks, a fan of 1960's Pop music or if you're like me and just you've just discovered them, buy this album!

This Band should have been bigger!
I loved and still do love The Applejacks. (The ones from the midlands anyway)I think the record company have put ALL their output on to this Cd and what a great bunch of tunes.(Think that they only made one vinyl album). Everyone is a 5* song, The hits are there albeit they only had 3 and all within a year....'Tell me when'....'Three Little Words' the Mcartney/lennon song ' Like Dreamers do'. I love "hello josephine" as its a bit of a novelty song really as they more or less 'scream' the song out and at one point Al the lead singer is heard laughing at his band's performance!! The Honeycombs had a girl drummer, Honey. This band had Megan on bass guitar. Both unique in the 60's I can tell you!! It even tells you where the band is now. They did re-unite for a concert in Dec2010 in the town they rehersed in back in the old days as a charity concert.I felt upset that it wasnt public knowledge as i would have travelled to see them all 150miles!! Do I wish they appeared on the 60s circuit shows again? YES I DO.I would give this CD SIX Stars if I could it is THAT good. Again ideal if you are travelling on holiday!! Feel Good CD!! (IN fact.."tell me when" was the second single I bought WHILST on holiday when i was 11! Oh the joy of 45s in those heady days. Memories. Love you guys STILL!! X

Great Compilation of their tracks
It is more or less a complete compilation of their recordings several of which though unreleased should have been hits. Like Dreamer's Do deserved to have done better. If you like 1960's pop Its worth a punt for some hidden gems.

great blending of voices and instruments of an English group from the 60's
I heard one of their tracks on the Tony Blackburn Radio 2 show and although my husband was familiar with this English group, I wasn't. After reading the reviews, I ordered this album. I was not disappointed with any of the numbers and now play it frequently. The sleeve notes were very interesting too. It's a "feel good" album and you will find yourself humming the tunes.

Solihull saints!
For me a very nostalgic and much enjoyed experience from this outstanding six-piece from Solihull who created a sound all of their own in the 1960's, when I was a teenager. Personal favourites are "Tell Me When" (their greatest hit) and "Like Dreamers Do" written for the group by Lennon and McCartney. This album features the band's entire ouput for the Decca label 1964-65, and offers a very generous 26 tracks. I have a special recollection of the band in that a teacher at my school in my home town of Ryde, Isle of Wight who also fancies himself as a part-time promoter, booked them to do a gig locally. (The teacher in question had previously also booked The Rolling Stones!) - The Applejacks however went down a storm. The fascinating sleeve notes are written by the band's bassist, Megan Davies. For any Applejacks fans, this album is pure pleasure from beginning to end.
