Does the intended job
I usually use a 20 pence piece to measure tread but decided I really needed something that tells me the exact number of mm of depth left, this does mm and inches, seems to be very accurate and is super easy to use, good value for money imo! Would recommend:)

It is cheap and works reasonably well...
It is cheap and does what is claimed. Any slight movement of the plunger turns it on, so carrying it in your vehicle will mean it will use up its battery quickly. I always remove the battery and put it all back in the box.It does need zeroing each time - but that is quick and very easy.I am trying to find out how the data port works. The data port is on the opposite edge to the battery compartment. It might be helpful for other applications to take readings automatically, but I can find no description. Does anyone know? The connector doesn't look like a Digimatic, so I assume it is not Mitutoyo compatible......

Very cheap feeling.
Very cheaply made and mine came with a defect on its screen. As you can see there's debris inside the screen.

Much easier to use than a mechanical sliding bar gauge.
One of many generic digital gauges of this type, this one caught my eye for the slightly larger display. This, and not having to squint at etched lines on a sliding bar gauge, means it's easier to read and more likely to get used because of it. As some reviewers have mentioned the slightest knock will turn it on which means it's not going to live in your pocket (a power hold or lock switch would have been nice), but it comes with a battery installed and a spare in the box so I won't need a new battery any time soon. Plus this gauge remembers what mode it was in when you turned it off, which some don't do. That sounds trivial but when we tend to measure tyre depth in milimetres in this country, having a gauge that always starts up in inches is a bit of a pain. I've only deducted a star for the absence of a power hold switch. In all other respects this is a great tool and I'll just leave it in the box for safe-keeping when it's not being used.
