2nd Purchase!
We purchased our first Popur x5 with a plastic bin in December 2023. At that time, we only had 4 cats. We have rescued more cats and now have 8! We bought an automatic litter box from another manufacturer. It is a drum type that rotates. It is also difficult to clean and I don't feel like it holds enough litter. Our adult male cats are not too fond of it. They prefer open boxes. We also have regular litter boxes. Our house is not open concept, so the rooms are broken up and divided. We keep multiple boxes because even though everybody is spayed or neutered, the cats are still territorial. And while these electric boxes are great and made for multiple cats, I prefer for them to have more options.Anyway, we came back to purchase another Popur x5 because it is what works for my cats. The first one we bought December 2023 has some litter granules stuck in the gears of the filter swing arm. So it is slowing down a little. If you purchase this, I would recommend putting a cover of some type over the open metal gears where the filter swing arm moves. I took some clear packing tape, cleaned the plastic part that says "Popur" and made a sort of shield with the tape all the way across. I also put tape on the back of that first piece of tape, so it wouldn't stick to the trash bag in the plastic bin when it dumps and then folded the back tape over the front tape. There are also silicone draft guards for doors that might work but you would need to "caulk" the gap between the plastic Popur piece and whatever you use to shield as there would be a ledge to catch litter. We did have issues with our orange male trying to dig a pit to China whenever he would use the litter box. He would literally shovel it out of the box onto the floor. He's gotten used to it and no longer does that. We just swept the litter up and put it back until he figured it out. Also, one of my cats is 18.5 lbs. He could turn around where his hind end is at the back corner of the box but he does not. He chooses to place his hind end at the front corner. Because of this, we have to keep litter shoveled up the side of the box a little past the liner. If the litter is not there and he pees in the front corner, it runs under the plastic guard at the front of the box. It could potentially run onto your floor if there were enough urine. Luckily, we didn't have that issue before we figured out a work around. The instructions with the product tell you not to fill it above the liner but you gotta do what you gotta do.We also have an elderly,16-year-old female cat. She loves using the Popur x5. She has no issue climbing in even though she has arthritis. We also have three cats that will not use the electric boxes. You have to find what works best for your cat. This Popur x5 is what works best for our felines.

AMAZING!! Changed our lives!
Best litter box ever and a must-have. Better design than any other I've seen and I have looked a LOT.I have a Maine Coon that is very picky about his litterbox and if oftentimes too big to fit in anything enclosed, including other auto litter boxes like ANY that roll (ex: Leo's Loo). This is the ONLY auto-litter box he will use and it has changed out lives. The large bin that captures the waste is large enough to cover 5-7 days of TWO cats, one being the Maine Coon who is massive. It's also easy to clean and you can replace the liner and the box when needed. My only complaint is I wish the display showed total number of cleanings it has done since the last time you reset/changed out the back instead of the number of cleanings per day which doesn't give me an indicator of when I need to check the bin. But the app does, I just don't want to have to open the app when it could just be a display option on the screen. Otherwise, best litterbox ever. Probably going to get another one.

Final Verdict: Not Worth the Money
At $420 plus tax (after a $150 coupon off the $570 price for the plastic bin version), the Popur automatic litter box is simply not worth it. Between the buggy app, unreliable Wi-Fi, tiny trash bin, short trash bin wire, non-waterproof liner, poop streaks from the flipping mechanism, random beeping, constant resetting, lack of smart home integration, proprietary bags, excessive weight, and poor overall design, this litter box creates more problems than it solves.I regret buying the Popur and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, especially multi-cat households. If you're considering it, save your money and look for a better alternative.Read on for a detailed breakdown of all the issues.Major Design Flaws & Poor Build QualityBuggy App & No Smart Home Integration- The Popur app is unreliable—it crashes often, doesn’t always send notifications, and frequently fails to update the litter box’s status.- The litter box constantly disconnects from Wi-Fi, requiring frequent manual reconnections.- It doesn’t work with any other home automation tools, such as Home Assistant, meaning the buggy app is the only way to control it. If the app is down (which happens often), there’s no other way to interact with the device.Small, Poorly Designed Trash Bin- The trash bin is too small. With four cats, I have to empty it twice a week, whereas my previous LitterMaid setup easily lasted two weeks.- The trash bin doesn’t open before the cleaning cycle starts, causing litter to pile up on top or behind the bin instead of inside it, creating extra mess.- The trash bin can shift away from the main unit, leading to litter getting trapped between the bin and the unit—another frustrating cleanup issue.Short Trash Bin Wire = Unnecessary Hassle- The wire connecting the trash bin to the main unit is too short, so every time I remove a full litter bag, I have to disconnect and reconnect the wire.- Worse yet, if the trash bin is unplugged and re-plugged, the entire litter box goes into an error state and stops working completely until I unplug the whole unit from power and plug it back in.Litter Box Liner is NOT Waterproof- The liner inside the main litter box area is not waterproof, meaning urine can soak through and leak underneath. This leads to nasty buildup and odors, making cleaning more difficult than it should be.Unnecessary Proprietary Trash Bags- Popur forces you to use their overpriced proprietary trash bags, instead of letting you use standard bags like other litter boxes. This adds unnecessary recurring costs and makes the box more expensive over time.Random Resets, Beeping, and Heavy Weight- The Popur randomly resets itself and starts beeping at random times, even when no cleaning cycle is running.- I’ve been woken up in the middle of the night because it started beeping for no reason. The only way to stop it is to unplug it from the wall and restart it.- It’s heavy and difficult to move, which makes deep cleaning and repositioning a pain. Unlike smaller litter boxes, this one is cumbersome to lift or tilt, adding unnecessary frustration to routine maintenance.Flipping Mechanism = Poop Streaks + Long-Term Reliability Concerns- Flipping Causes Poop Streaks – The Popur cleans itself by flipping the entire litter box over, which often results in poop streaks on the top of the box. Instead of being hands-free, I have to manually wipe it down after cleaning cycles.- Too Many Moving Parts = Likely to Break – The entire unit flips over each time it cleans, meaning there are a lot of moving parts. This seems like a long-term reliability issue. With four cats using it multiple times a day, I doubt this will last long before something breaks. What Worked Better: LitterMaid 3rd Edition + Aftermarket Wood StandAt home, I used a LitterMaid 3rd Edition litter box, which, while not perfect, was far more reliable than the Popur. Instead of using the small plastic waste receptacles it came with, I bought an aftermarket wood stand that lifted the LitterMaid unit about a foot off the ground.- The stand included a chute system that funneled used litter directly into a regular plastic bag, making cleanup incredibly simple.- With this setup, I only had to empty the waste every two weeks, compared to twice a week with the Popur.- This setup was cheaper, more efficient, and far more reliable than the expensive and flawed Popur unit.Unfortunately, LitterMaid has been discontinued, and finding a true replacement has been a struggle. If LitterMaid were still available, I’d buy another in a heartbeat instead of wasting money on the Popur. If you made it this far, you can see why I don't recommend Popur. At this price point, there are better, more reliable solutions out there—this just isn't one of them.
