Danco 88923 Clip Style Shower Drain Cover, For Use With 3-3/8 in Shower Drains, Aluminum Steel, Chrome Plated

The Danco 88923 clip-style shower drain protector fits perfectly, into the opening of my shower drain, and it stays in place. Although it protects the drain, some small hairs pass through it, so I have placed a wire-mesh strainer below the Danco unit. The Danco unit is made of thin aluminum, so it is very lightweight (almost flimsy), so I avoid stepping on it. It is easy to remove, so I clean it, after each shower.

The raised platform it created caused hairs from a shower to slide up and across the plane of the raised elevation and onto the drain cover. Since the horizontal direction doesn't allow the errant hairs to turn downward, they become trapped on the raised shelf.The durabilty, ease of use and ease of cleaning are excellent, and it fit both on my bathtub drain that had a screw down the middle, which needed a slight increase from a wood awl I'd also previously purchased on Amazon, and also fit on a too-large drain in the middle of a dedicated shower that didn't have a screw in the middle, but that the prongs helped keep in place.

We have these in our laundry tubs and they work to catch the lint. I wipe them off with a paper towel to keep them clear. The problem with them is that the prongs which are supposed to hold them in place break off or else bend or flatten so that they are no longer secure in the drain.

I just take a paper towel and wipe it off good as new

I bought this as a replacement to one that I had. I love that it is lightweight but stays in place AND stops the hair from going down my bathtub/shower drain. I tried others and they just don’t fit an older style cast iron (I assume) tub drain. They are either too deep or too big around. This one sits on top of the drain opening so you don’t have to worry about those issues. It does try to move around a bit when I first turn the water on but I saw another reviewer rig something to anchor it. I may try that but for now it’s easy enough to push it right back where I want it!! This one is my go to drain cover!

First, this product functions really well as a hair-catcher, although it rests awkwardly, not very neat and flat over the shower drain, so maybe if your wiggle around with the underside long enough, it might get flat, or maybe its better to leave it flat, as is; it probably will work fairly well. The biggest disappointment was that its shiny aluminium-like surface became totally discolored and had an almost-black rubbed-off look in some parts of the drain cover within 3 Showers!!! I recall that this product used to be sold at the Home Depot, where I've got it in the past, a while back though, so who knows if theirs holds up better.. But the one I received looks like a piece of garbage now!! barely worth 25 cents, in 3 Showers with its coating rubbed off in places already?? How'd that happen with just normal municipal shower water and normal shower gel and shampoo type products falling on it?? In the 21st Century if we can't sell to a consumer a shower drain hair-catcher that has a reliable aluminium coating that holds its surface texture and appearance for at least a few years, then What The HELL kind of progress have we invented?? Its pretty pathetic - I want things to look neat & clean inside one's residence and this is where this product falls short - its manufacturer has cut corners by using a PATHETIC coating process which does not adhere to its surface from even initial usage, much less therefore through wear and tear. The one I had previously from Home Depot a couple of years ago, seems to have held better in appearance, but I thought that looked oldish, so I chucked it out. So Someone needs to change the process and improve the lasting quality of the appearance of this product, which in fact is highly functional. This used to be sold at $1.99 when I bought it at Home Depot last, prices shouldn't go up double while quality goes down this much!!

It doesn't even deserve one star. For $2 I didn't expect anything great I just wanted to put it over the shower drain to keep everybody's hair and the dog's fur from going down the drain. It's so thin that whenever you turn the water on it moves away from the drain so I had to keep moving it back and when I tried to adjust the clips underneath they almost broke off. Don't waste your money on this spend a little more and get something that actually works.

I've purchased this type shower drain cover in the past from a local box store, so I already knew this was the best little hair catcher out there. It fits perfectly over my existing drain cover, the present one and the old drain cover before we remodeled. If I were going to suggest an improvement to the drain cover it would be that the 2 adjustable, flexible prongs underneath that help hold into place on existing drain cover would be a little stronger, because over time they become brittle if you have to re-bend/readjust them and they break. In spite of that minor flaw, I will buy this drain cover again and again, because it lasts a long time before it finally gives out.
