Great Editions
The Library of America Hardback edition books are great value: They normally contain a number of stories by the author; sometimes essays; and sometimes autobiographies. They have quality binding, with acid free paper, and offer work by a number of very important writers. Along with the Everyman's Library Classics Editions - they are my favourite book editions.

Literary brilliance and historic importance
I may stand alone in this but I prefer these later novels to the earlier books. Perhaps it is because the racial politics and political actions occurred within my lifetime. These three novels are brilliant with the last, Just Above My Head, my favourite.

The epitome of great American literature
If you know James Baldwin's work, then you already know his genius for telling great stories with fully developed characters with well woven plots and subplots.. If you are not familiar with Baldwin's work, give it a shot. His style is clear and concise. Thoroughly enjoyable.. and thought provoking..

James Baldwin is simply a great writer
I've profited from everything I've read by James Baldwin. I can't say I 'enjoyed' his books or that I was entertained. I was challenged, informed, touched, hurt, shamed, etc. For an old white man who grew up in the south reading James Baldwin is an education. He is a great American voice and should be read by everyone.
