Great fun, icy treats and comfort drinks
We purchased our first one when the kids were young as a way to make snow cones and bring back memories our youth. It has served us well over the years and now that the kids are off in college, we bought them each one to take with them. Not only do they enjoy them as a treat, they love these when they are a bit under the weather. They will take the ice shavings and cover them with a bit of ginger ale. It really soothes a sore throat. As for the machine itself, yes, it is a bit noisy, but only while you are shaving the ice and that only lasts a minute or so. We useregular cubes from the automatic icemaker and they work fine. It is very easy to use, the kids did it all themselves. One word of advice, remember to put a little bowl under the slot after you are done shaving ice, because the unshaven ice left in the machine will melt and drip out.All in all, it is a great product that works well, is easy to use and is built to last. I hope it brings you as many great memories as it brought us.

My kids love it
My 6-year-olds can use this with minimal supervision. It can get things a little wet, so we put a towel under it, but it works great.

Good Ice Shaver for the cost
I bought this to make Filipino halo-halo desserts. When I was a kid, my parents had a manual ice shaver. This is so much easier! We were able to use it straight out of the box with simple assembly. We used ice cubes from our freezer’s ice maker. I like that it won’t turn on unless the lid is secure and that my kids can operate it without me worrying that they’ll spray ice shavings everywhere. The only thing I don’t like is that it really loud! However for the price point and safety features, it’s a good value. I knocked it down a star for durability because it’s plastic and if you’re too ambitious with turning the lid, it can break. I wouldn’t put anything other than water ice cubes in this too, because it looks like it would be difficult to clean otherwise. TIP: when I see that the snow isn’t coming out, I turn it off and loosen the ice cubes a bit. Sometimes the ice cubes get too close together and they can’t move towards the blade.

Hawaiian Ice Shave
I read all of the reviews on other products before choosing this produect.LOVE IT !!!! Hope it lasts forever but I would buy another one if it every breaks.I wanted to make smoothies and didn't want chunks of ice.... This is perfect.fyi: I watched the little video made by one reviewer (the only negative review because he said it was loud... good demo video... and he actually likes it better than his other ice breaker.)In my opinion, not louder than any other product.Makes a nice little bowl of snowflake type shaved ice - perfect for smoothies, snow cones, etc.5 icecubes make enough for one. (Room for more if you want)I spoon the shave ice into my smoothies and blend. (Note: I tried putting the shaved ice into the cup and then pouring the smoothie over - but noticed that it iced up and became a little harder.... so best to blend all together.)NOTICE: Instructions say to not run it more than 2 minutes or it could overheat. So just follow the instructions.Very easy set-up... and I just leave it out as I use it all the time. Doesn't need cleaning. - Just put an empty bowl under the spout when you're done to temporarily catch any left over drips from unused ice. (I am technically challenged :) so I couldn't figure out the simple instruction for turning the lid to make it work...but my friend was here and she did understand easily.)

Great ice crusher
Got this for my 92 yr old mother. She eats crushed ice several times a day. Simple to use. She loves it!

Total Exceeded My Expectations
I had my doubts when buying this little guy, I though for sure it would break after a small number of uses. I serve Hawaiian Ice to all of my guests, so it gets a lot of use. I was going to buy a commercial machine until I saw how much they want for one of them. So when my last one died after 2 months, I bought this one and have been very happy with it. I can say that after 6 months of almost daily use, it is still up and running and not having any issues...Just works every time I use it. One thing you have to remember is to check the machine to make sure you shaved all of the ice or remove any remaining ice or else it will melt, and the water will drip down onto the overflow area at the base of the machine and will overflow onto the counter if a large amount of ice is left to melt in the top of the machine -->This is solely a user issue and not the products fault at all.

Functional ice shaver, but noisy and not so efficient
I am pleased with the consistency of the ice shavings that this machine produces. However, there are a few areas in which I feel its design could be improved:1) The noise level. Once I start up the machine, it emits an almost shrieking sound. I have had ice shavers before that are quieter.2) The maximum 2-minute continuous running time. In 2 minutes, I can only shave about 13 average-sized ice cubes, or a packed pint of ice shavings, which is good for one person. If I need to serve more people, I have to rest the machine a few more minutes before starting another 2-minute round of shaving.3) Incomplete job. The first time I used this machine, I thought it had shaved every single cube I had placed in the canister. A few minutes later, I noticed water dripping heavily from the blade, and I realized one more cube had been left intact inside. After several more uses, I discovered a consistent pattern of one last ice cube never being shaved even after the machine stops making a grinding sound. I am unhappy that the 14-cube capacity of the canister is not maximized and instead produces only the equivalent of 13 cubes of shaved ice.In conclusion, this machine functions as it should and is relatively easy to assemble and clean. So far, I have had no mechanical problems with it. However, the shrieking sound leads me to believe that it may not be durable and it could break down any time.
