I bought these to make the "Purple Ear Wash" (google it) for dogs. Alcohol, Gentian Violet and boric acid powder. Simple to use and very cost effective to make yourself but you can buy it premade, here, on Amazon if you prefer for a much higher price,I have a black Labrador who has had non stop ear infections for her entire life. She has had many vet visits, cleaners and creams, allergy pills, as well as dietary changes with nothing seeming to help for very long and sometimes not at all. It always comes back. Well, now we have moved to a different state that is much more humid, more often than where will lived before and this has exacerbated the problem. In my effort to help her, I recently happened upon a Labrador website where someone posted the recipe for this Purple Ear wash and decided to give it a try,So far, so good. I have been just using cotton balls soaked in the solution to clean out her ears instead of pouring the solution in her ears like the directions stated because I have done that before (with other things) and liquid seems to get trapped in her ears and takes months to disappear. Anyway... some parts of her ears are actually a healthy white color again... which I haven't seen in a long time. I don't expect miracles because she has had this problem for a decade. But I am very hopeful.As a side note, I decided to use this on my long standing on again/off again intertrigo (Ladies with large Ta-Ta's know what I am talking about lol). It has worked better than anything I have ever tried! This combined with Baza Antifungal Cream is a one-two punch.As for staining... I accidently left some of the solution in my marble sink overnight and had two big purple splotches that wouldn't wash off... I sprayed it with a bleach shower mold/mildew cleaner and let it sit for about 5 minutes and it came right off. I've also heard of people using plain rubbing alcohol and even hydrogen peroxide to remove purple stains, just depends on the surface that is stained. My point is although it does stain anything it touches, the stains usually can be removed. The better option is to be careful how you use it to eliminate/minimize staining in the first place. For example, if I ever do decide to pour the solution directly in her ear... this will definitely be done outside on our patio where she can shake her head and let it fly without fear of it staining the entire room LOL

Some years back I developed a large callous on the inside of my pinky toe, and it caused great pain from rubbing against the next one. My podiatrist used this topical antiseptic and in less than two days the callous was softened and peeled right off. Last week it reappeared so I bought this and got the same result. CAUTION: it is violet in color and will stain anything it touches. On skin it fades, but on material like carpets, cloth, etc. it's pretty permanent, so be careful!

Use it for skin rash from temporary ileostomy bag. Works good but wear gloves,it stains.

My mother used it to tone her hair lol. She had purple hair for over a week.I've used it on a cut to try it, it stings a bit and it stains the skin

Wow wow wow, doctor diagnosed me with Thrush and prescribed Clotrimazole lozenge which didn’t work. I went back and they prescribed Nystatin which didn’t work, so I went back and again prescribed Nystatin and it didn’t work. I then tried to use a combo of tea tree and apple cider vinegar which resulted in half tongue clearing for a week then returning to full tongue infection. I looked on the internet and ordered Candida pills from Amazon which also cured half the tongue for a week then returned to full tongue infection. After looking on the internet I found an article that matched my symptoms with leukoplakia, came to Amazon and searched leukoplakia and Gentian Violet popped up. Ordered on Saturday and arrived Monday!Now for this product specifically, at 11pm Monday I covered my whole mouth with it turning everything fully dark purple. I was scared it would never go away, by 3pm Tuesday half my tongue (in the back) was still purple, teeth were white and everything else was faded purple but not really noticeable. By Wednesday (today) I have a bright pink natural tongue with just 15% white coating on the back of tongue, I put Gentian on at 11pm Mon, Tues, Wed and I’m confident by Friday it will be completely gone!Sad to say over the weekend, the white coating on my tongue returned!
