Essential in pain management
I have been suffering from severe lower back and leg pain due to a herniated disk for almost a year. The pain can make it extremely difficult for me to sleep and the only tolerable position I have been able to find is on my back. After a while, even this position failed to bring me any relief and I started to search for something, anything, to help me. I decided to try this pillow and, quite frankly, I had little hope that it would have any positive effect whatsoever. At first I found it rather uncomfortable and I wasn't sure I would be able to sleep on it at all. I used it anyway, and almost immediately I started sleeping though the night without waking up in pain. This was totally life changing! My back has felt progressively better as I have used it, paired with a heating pad. As an added bonus, I am even able to occasionally lay on my side now (on the pillow). This is a huge deal for me because this has always been my preferred position and one that I have been unable to be in since last August. Oh the joy of being able to lay on my side! This pillow has not only improved my ability to lay on my back without pain, sleep through the night, and lay on my side, it has also had an overall positive effect that lasts throughout the day. It had gotten so that I could not sit on my couch without excruciating pain, but I can now tolerate sitting there for a much longer time and even enjoy a movie with my children. There is one small downside to using this pillow, and it may be specific to my situation. I often find that when I wake up in the morning I am more or less "frozen" into position on my back, and it takes a fair bit of effort to roll over and get out of bed. Given the benefits I have received from using it, this inconvenience is a small price to pay.

Helped my lower back pain.
So I’ve been having some bad lower back pain for 6 or so weeks, and it was really disrupting my sleep. I had to stretch before I went to bed, at least once during the night, and again in the morning - and I still had pretty bad pain and stiffness. The small of my back is pretty pronounced, so I tried getting some support by placing folded clothes underneath, to no avail. This morning I woke up pain free for the first time in a while, which I’m so greatful for. It did take some trial and error to find a good position for the pillow. The point has to be exactly at the highest point of the small of my back, otherwise it’s not comfortable. And both sides are not the same, one has a slightly steeper slope - that side has to be going downwards, while the gentle slope side has to go towards my middle back. But once I found the sweet spot it was great! Maybe as my back continues to get some relief it won’t matter as much if it’s positioned exactly. Also, I don’t have to move it in the middle of the night if I switch positions! It’s hard for me to stay on my back, I’m usually a stomach sleeper with one leg straight, and the other leg pulled up and bent at a 90° angle. I was able to both lay on my side as well as my stomach with the pillow under me, no discomfort.

Hit and Miss
Some nights this is a hit, others it's a miss. I am learning that i do not 'need' to use it every night. I find it best to use on nights when i go to bed with my back bothering me, rather than on nights my back feels fine on it's own. Those nights, the latter, this can actually throw my back, and my sleep off a bit and i awake wishing i hadn't used it. Other nights, i find that it helps tremendously if my back is already bothering me. One thing, is placement is important. Too high and while you may not feel it initially, after a few hours it can really bother the ribs and have you tossing and turning. I find that putting the bottom edge of it right at the top of my hips is my sweet spot, but you may have to play around to find your sweet spot. Once it's in place it generally stays there and is long enough that you can roll over and still be on it. overall, it is pretty comfortable most times and offers some support, but not a ton. I guess that's okay anything much bigger may cause misalignment and discomfort during the night. I would like to give it 4 stars but I am not sure I feel that strongly about it, so I am going for 3. It's definitely nice to have, and i have no regrets purchasing it, but at least for me, it's not good for every single night use.

Firm. Works for me
In contrast to some other reviewers I find this pillow firm & supportive. I suspect the user's weight makes a big difference. I only weigh 115 lbs so, if anything, I could use a pillow that's half an inch shorter but if I weighed twice as much I might find this pillow inadequate. Didn't move around while I slept (100% cotton sheets). Woke up without back pain. More comfortable reading in bed, too.

More pain, not less
I gave this a fair try. I slept on it for a few nights and that's all I could take. I have some problems with my right hip and was hoping that this could help. I bought it one morning after a particularly sleepless night. It was very uncomfortable fro the start. Each night I slept on this was more painful than the last. I finally ran out of patience with it last night and tossed it aside. It gave me pain in both hips, running down to my feet. I needed to sleep. I got the best sleep I've had in days after I stopped using it.This pillow seems to have decent ratings, and perhaps it will work for others. For me, it caused nothing but pain and I will be returning it

Holy Moly Helpful Lumbar Pillow for Upper Body Stretch Position
Absolutely love this lumbar pillow. I’ve been working on my posture and saw this online for opening up the chest while sleeping. The arch is only an inch and a half but it’s quite effective when you position it in just the right place. I use it for a few hours under my chest and then it gets to be too much, so I slide it down to my waist area when I sleep on my side. I’ve been using it throughout the day when I need to stretch or reposition my upper back and shoulders. This is the best find and I have tried a ton of pillows. I’d rate this way more effective for my individual needs that the knee wedge pillows, neck pillows, and the wedge pillows. Again, for opening the chest and helping to roll my shoulders back, it’s just what my body needed to help get that upper curve out of my neck/upper body area. Hope that helps if this is what you need 😀
