Ames Co. HDP5-4 Poop Hound Scooper

This is by far the best pooper scooper ever! It rakes the poop right into a regular bag like you get at the store. I moved and threw out my old scooper instead of cleaning it. I had paid around $13 for it at Petsmart several years ago and picked up after 3 dogs almost daily for years. Now you have to pay an arm and a leg to get one, I guess this company has discontinued this item, if you can find them. I paid more than I would have liked to, but it really is the only one I have found that scoops it right into a bag. It is also very well built, durable and easy to clean.

Buyer beware. This product is very cheaply made. On first use it was very difficult for a young active woman to squeeze the handle and it would only reopen partway when handle was released making it difficult to use and then the inside cable must have snapped because it was rendered useless and stopped opening at all. The plastic seems very flimsy and before it broke it still only picked up parts of the mess and once the bag had any weight to it it slid out and fell on the ground. I ended up with more poop on me trying to clean up after this awful product than if I did it the old fashioned way. The seller was quick to respond and offer replacement but after seeing the quality I'm sure it would only be a matter of time before a new one broke, and it was an inconvenient design regardless if the cable remained in tact or not. The YouTube video shows someone scooping tennis balls with this. Also when offering a replacement the seller said they were "familiar with this issue" as in the same break occurs often- not exactly a good sign...If only poop were the shape and consistency of tennis balls this might have been a good product. ..

My kids have to clean up after their dogs and this makes it easy for them to do it. It works very well, though it can be a little hard for younger kids to squeeze the handle. I've also used it to pick up papers or garbage that blows into the yard before cutting the grass.

I purchased this product thinking it may work better for me considering I am in a wheelchair and need to clean up after my service dog. I took a chance and coughed up the $60 for it. The product is a good quality product I will give it that all be it kind of heavy and bulky. When I received it, I got a packaging slip on the box from the company that the seller purchased it from for $39 dollars with free shipping. Mind you I paid for my shipping (I'm a Prime Member). I contacted the original company from which the seller purchased it from only to find out they have some in stock for the lesser price.While I have no problem with a business making a profit, there is a difference between profit and price gauge! I even figured that given my disability and the cost of the item, WHEN this one breaks I WAS willing to purchase another one..... Now after reading the reply the seller left me, it managed to completely change my mind. Way to go and turn off a customer. Word of mouth is your best advertiser and considering how much shopping I do on Amazon and how often I refer friends to specific items, this one will be wont be one of them.The seller felt the need to give me a dissertation on profits, economy, business operations and that it is costly for him to sell on Amazon because it eats into his profit margin. So if you don't mind paying the increased cost for an item that the seller sells on three different sites for 3 varying amounts, then go for it. Personally as a loyal Prime member I will NEVER do business with this seller again.

I owned one of these and it lasted three years. Great product, far better than just the "scoop" - No touch and throw the bag away, works well with store plastic bags. It finally broke and I replaced it. The replacement broke in less than 6 months? It is not carried in the chain pet stores where I originally purchased it and the second one came from Amazon. Obviously not the fault of Amazon. I am ordering again because I really like it and hope that it is not being made poorly now, resulting in my recent experience and not available in stores? It is far more expensive than the others but worth it if you can get longer service out of it.

I can't imagine ever using a different scoop. It doesn't get any easier than this. This is the cleanest way to clean a yard. It just uses those plastic grocery bags and you never have to touch a thing. It is worth every penny. Have had one for ourselves for about 4 years. Had to get one for our daughter when she got a dog.

This is my 4th Poop Hound Scooper. I have been using it for years, and even bought one for a friend. Easy to use, very durable, and waste is disposed of neatly in a bag. I have tried other removal tools, but this is the most sanitary and easiest system.

This is only getting 1 star because of the company it was bought from. I have already had 2 of these pooper Scoopers the first one broke within 1 month and maybe 5 uses. There is a problem with the handle mechanism. When you pull the handle to close the claw it won't release and is stuck in the closed position. The company sent me another one in no time at all. I've had the second one for about a month and I've used it about 10 times and I'm having the same problem. When I spoke with the company they said this is a common problem with this item.
