Sailor Fountain Pen Professional gear silver 112037420 Middle Point

I purchased this pen as a birthday gift to myself. It arrived from Japan earlier than expected and in perfect condition. What can I say about the pen itself? It is a Sailor Pro Gear with a 21K two tone gold F nib and it writes like a dream. It isn’t scratchy at all, it has that famous Sailor “writes like a pencil” feel and it lays down a wet and a very precise line of ink. The pen when posted has a nearly perfect balance in the hand and the grip section is girthy enough to make long writing sessions with this pen a real pleasure. Kudos to the seller and Amazon for providing this beautiful Japanese writing instrument to us here in the States.

I ordered two pens at different times. My Sailor Pro Gear pen (m) with chrome trim, arrived on time and very well packaged. I love the smoothness of the medium nib on the paper. Would I buy it again. Well I did but with a fine nib and gold trim.

It’s the worlds only 21K nib by Sailor. It’s very good. Very unique. The scribing is tactile and it’s by purpose. It’s like writing with something like pencil sometimes. Lightweight but with cap on, the pen gives enough pressure for its weight. This is a pen made for people who need fountain pen for work. I use fountain pen on a daily basis and this is professional level tool. It writes amazing on reverse side, it’s kind of mind boggling. Lines never skip and ink flows at any angle and strength. Nib tip is shaped unique. Very unique. It gives a slight vertical broadness, which is amazing if you tend to write kanji (Chinese characters) or hiragana. I think for Asians, this pen works amazing because it is like brush sometimes. For drawers this pen is also slightly brush like, and could be used as a daily tool to draw lines professionally.

This was one of the pens I was really looking forward to getting and using. And a great pen it is!As others have said before, this is not a pen that writes extremely smooth. It feels exactly like if you were to write with a lead pencil, some feedback but very pleasant feeling and sounding. I absolutely love how it writes.The nib did require a bit of tuning as it was writing somewhat dry. After checking it it was just a misaligned tine, no big deal. But what does keep this pen from a full 5 stars is the condition it was in. Now, as I opened the case I saw there was a blue stain towards one corner of the fabric bedding. No problem at first. As I open up the pen I noticed quite a few droplets of ink on the nib and sure enough, there was some drops down the barrel of the pen. It was easy enough to wash it away with water and now I have a nice pristine looking pen.Don't get me wrong, the pen itself is definitely 5 stars and I highly recommend anyone else to get one. The -1 is mostly because the listing said a brand new pen when in reality it might not have been new.

This is a well-crafted pen; good fit and finish in the construction. It’s comfortable for someone with medium-large hands, although with the cap “posted” on the back my hand sometimes risks pushing it off. The nib is somewhat flexible and will vary the width of the line depending on pressure and angle. I got the fine nib and it is maybe equivalent to an extra-fine or 2x fine on other pens if you write with a light touch. Because of that it’s not going to lay down too much ink and smudge. On the whole it’s a good everyday pen for a fount pen nerd.

First time I heard or seen a Sailor fountain pen was when I had a layover in Narita airport. I was at the duty free and they had a display of Sailor pens which impressed me. Did some research and only heard good things about them. Luckily, I was able to find this Pro Gear model at a great price so I took the chance and ordered one. I was not disappointed. This beats out the Watermans, Kawecos, Scheaffers, and Diplomat fountain pens I already own or have tried out. Smooth writing and very comfortable to hold. I have since then bought another lesser expensive Sailor fountain pen and that, too, didn't disappoint!

The pen I received did not include the converter. Please check your package when you receive it! Otherwise, the pen looks great and I look forward to writing with it once I receive my replacement.
